I am looking for one of my relatives, who emigrated 1912.
Name: JOHN Bengtsson, b. August 15th 1874, Jonstorp, Örkened, Kristianstad, Sweden.
 
He might have come to USA before moving up to Canada. He had contact with his relatives in Sweden until 1917, when he disappeared.

Can someone help me find my grandfather Ernst Helmer Taveniku. He vas born on Mars 11th 1880. I know he emigrated to Canada sometimes between 1910 - 1917. He came from Kiruna, Jukkasjärvi parish, Sweden.
I think that he changed his name to Gus Jonson and lived in Vancouver or somewhere in that area.

Looking for any information on my great-grandfather, Magnus Borg, born in Vemmenhog,skane,se on Dec 21,1879. He left for north America from Malmo in 1901.His birth name was Magnus Hansson. He was married to Selma Andersson,born sept 17,1874 in skane.se. They lived in Kittson County,Minnesota and had five sons. One year after Selma's death in Feb.1916, Magnus left for Winnepeg, Canada. On feb 1917 he signed up to join the Canadian Army,223rd Battalion Over-seas Expedition. (WWI) I have nothing further on his life after 1917. Assuming he survived the war, could he have returned to the U.S.? Try checking the St. Albans border crossing records to see if he did. If you find him, the records tell where he is going, who he is joining, relatives left behind in Canada, and much more. Don't worry about the name. The records cover the entire border between the U.S. and Canada, for people entering the U.S.

Could there be a mention of this person in local histories written for his part of Canada? Many of those were written, and my father, who lived there from about age 9 to age 28, had his family mentioned a few times even though they hadn't lived there for decades when the book was written.
 
I suppose it would be a good idea to ask on a board for Canadian research and for Manitoba and perhaps the Canadian army, if a Canadian army board exists. There are lots of boards at Rootsweb and Genforum.
 
I suppose he might have returned to Sweden, but the sons were still alive and I would think he would want to be with them.
 
Good luck! It is often much harder to find our relatives in the U.S. and Canada than it is to find them in Sweden.

Thanks Judy. I have ran his name through the Vetrans Memorial database and it never showed up, so one can assume he did survive being in the Canadian Army. I do believe he came back to Kittson County at least once while in the Army, or maybe it was just to say goodbye to my grandpa before his overseas expedition left; as we have a photo of Magnus in his Canadian Army uniform standing with his eldest son Arthur(my grandpa). I will try the avenues you mentioned and see if anything comes of it. All I really want to know at this point is: when did he die?/where is he buried? Hello! I?m searching for my aunt and her family. I don\t know wich port they got to when they emigrated to USA. And it?s not so long ago. I wounder if their exist any passengerlist between 1946-1950. My aunt left Sweden 1939 emigrated fir?st to Denmark. She married a Danish man. They lived and got two children in Copenhagen. In 1947 12 december they emigrated to USA. I have heard Illinois but I don\t know it for sure. In the beginning in USA my aunt had contact with her mother and father in Sweden. But they died shortly after the emmigration and her adress disappeard.I will be so greatfull if anyone can give me some advice how I shall search for the family. I have tried so hard for a long time. I can\t find anyone of the familymembers in social death record.
