Kierstin Pärsdotter - birth & parent questions

Hello.

Kierstin Pärsdotter is the mother of Jonas Samuelsson, who is the father of Anders jonasson, who I have posted about previously.

I have found several records for her, but also have several questions.

The records all list her birth date as 1765.  i have found 2 different birth records for a Kjerstin Pärsdotter in Ryssby parish in 1765. 

I have difficulty reading the birth records, so I'm not sure if one of these might be her.  I also found another possible birth record in Odensvi parish.

I think i can read the names of the parents in one Ryssby record, but not in the other. 

Most of the records are for Ryssby parish, where she married Samuel Andersson.  I also found 2 records in Västra Ed parish. but I cannot tell if these might apply to her.  they are before her time in Ryssby.

I cannot find any records for her in Ryssby before her 1790 marriage to Samuel, only the possible Västra Ed records. 

Any insights into her parents or where she was before her marriage would be appreciated.

Hi Tom,


There is always a problem with common first names and last names, like every 3:rd male or female has patronymic beginning with Per or Pär. Also quite a few variations on the first name of Kierstin.


One methodology problem you have is: moving along to fast. You have death dates of both Samuel A, and Kierstin P, often you will have additional info about the person, like its parents, and somtimes siblings, and living children - make a habit of using that sort of info. We have a saying in Sweden putting on report cards in school in older days. "VG"/Well approved or "Väl Godkänd", in reasearch of ancestry we say "VG" and from "Vaggan till Graven" from the "cradle to the grave". However thinking "grave to cradle", in this case, is more appropriate because you most often will have more readable info on deaths.


The big problem here is that you are actually missing almost everything between the marriage in 1790 and 1809. Relevant info about where to find them could be found in the birth records of their three children listed in HFL 1810-1817.


Also, you may find it hard to match her birth, since you haven't the info from between the marriage in 1790-11-11 and the HFL. The woman suggested in Odensvi p 107 1791-1806 row 5 is married to Thyrs Larsson (on row 4) in 1791, so it can't be.


You cannot be certain of a person without the "VG", and at least not moving to a possible prior generation. 


You use Arkiv Digital and I do not know if they has info about the parishes, and parishes were in southern Sweden not far between and people moved quite a lot to get work. It is not easy to read info, often you will have to match a few letters of place names and see what place names there were in the parishes. About parishes: some of them was so small they the were "annex"/"belonging to" and then some types of records were not kept for the smaller ones, but in a bigger more central church with a priest with a higher rank. However this is more in genaral and not directly applicable to Ryssby/Kalmar. You will find info about parish history when loading a parish in Riksarkivet; under "Visar träff xn-yn" you vill find "Visa historik för Ryssby (Kalmar län)".


I will go ahead an find the death records for the couple and transcibe the info in the marriage record et c.

I am wondering if any of the possible birth dates in the records I found (posted in my initial inquiry) might be him.

The marriage record suggests he was from Västerslätt, Kläckeberga.  But I haven't found any birth record from there.

Just a quick feedback. Have you found the name of Kierstin's mother? The mother's name is not mentioned in the familyrecord for Pär Olsson in HFL 1790-


To be certain of Kierstin's parents you should really go back to the HFL previous to the above, and find the mother´s name, and go so far back in the HFLs to when you find the probable years for their marriage. Because, there you will also find the name of the place where she came from, even if it is in another parish.


As long as you haven't followed her family/parents back as far as you can, you should not go straight to her birth record. In this case you can only match someone with the name of Per/Pär Olsson or even Olofsson (both first name and lastnames are VERY common). And in Kierstin's parents' marriage record you will find if her father was from Espelund farm, and maybe get his parents. To just jump straight back to Kierstín's birth record is not advisable, you may track the wrong family and could have spent time better. Also, tracking your family, you should know everything about every generation - Each period has its own history, for a family ad/or for a country, and you will learn more. Make some notes on the older generations but follow the "current" generation in detail.
