I am wondering if Anders Nilsson Frimodig f. Nov. 1734 is a brother to Bonde Nilsson f. Dec. 1721 in Granemåla? I am using two different sources, and both men seem to come from Nils Månsson and Maria Persdotter. Your help will be appreciated by me. Thank you. MVH Floyd Hallberg

My father, Albin Hallberg, worked near Halla f. from 1901-1903. I found him listed in the Halla HFL 1900-1910 image 650, page 55. The location where he was living was listed as No 10 Broa and some other letters that I could not read. Can someone tell me if this is a place that can be located now? I would like to know a little about the place he was living. He returned to Blekinge on 26 Jan 1903 which is 110 years ago tomorrow. He then emigrated to America in April 1903. Thank you for your help.

Hej, I have found the birth entry for Betty Larsdotter born in Tådene parish. She was born 5 Oct 1848. Lars Andersson and Catrina Carlsdotter were the father and mother on GID 1591.21.49700. Can someone guide me to an HFL page for this family during the 1850-1860's? Thank you for your help. MVH Floyd

Hej Agne, I am still waiting for the cemetery caretaker to give me information. Also,I am planning to check on Olof Edstrom at the Mosinee library. There may be something helpful in the city directories, and I might find something about him in the 1914 newspaper....if it is on microfilm. MVH Floyd Hallberg

Hej, Is it possible to trace where Gabriel and Lars Sandberg were born in Västergötland. Gabriel was born 1 Oct 1778 and Lars was born 1 Sep 1780. The source for that information is on the 1820-24 HFL in Björnekulla f., Kristianstad. The HFL did not name a parish,,,,only the province of Västergötland. They can be found on GID's 1630.13.17500 and 1630.13.17600. Thank you in advance. I and the lady that I am helping will be very appreciative for any help you can provide. Can someone tell me the name of the parish where Gabriel Sandberg was born on 1 Oct 1778. A place is listed on the HFL for 1820 or so. The image is GID 1630.13.17600. His brother Lars is listed on GID 1630.13.17500 at the same place. I am unable to determine the parish. Thank you in advance for your help. MVH Floyd Hallberg

On Monday evening, some friends and I attended a wonderful choral concert performed by the ChorusMix from Hässleholm Församling. The concert was held in Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. The church was filled to capacity for this joyous occassion. For those of us with a strong connection to Sweden, this was a blessed event. Many thanks to Pastor Bo Johansson and Director Birgitta Roslaund for their work with this young group of performers.

Could someone search the Emigrant CD for more information about Sigrid Maria Olander. Her birthdate was 28 October 1876 and she was supposedly born in the Norrköping area, Östergötland. Her parents were Jonas Olander and Johanna. The parish and place is unknown. She arrived in NY on 4 June 1896. She eventually married Arvid Ludwig Olsson who was on my inquiry posted yesterday. Any helpful information will be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

For a friend, I am trying to find the correct parish for a man that emigrated to the USA from Vallberga, Laholm, Halland län in April/May 1911. The Ellis Island ship manifest indicated he was from Vallberg, but I think it might have been Vallberga. It stated that his father's name was Johannes Nilsson of Vallberg(a). On his World War I military draft registration card, it stated he was from Laholm, Halland, Sweden. His name was Otto Birger Johansson on the ships manifest, and his birth date was 11 January or June 1891 on the military draft card. I wonder if his home parish was Ränneslov f. or one of the Laholms? Your help is appreciated very much. MVH Floyd Hallberg Wausau, Wisconsin

Hej Karen and Barbro, Just some ideas to consider. In regard to the hard to read powder plant, I remember there was a dynamite plant on Hwy 13,just south of Washburn, and I think it was in the village of Barksdale. I think the plant started in World War I. This plant was shut down about 1960, and the village has pretty much disappeared. Only a few small homes remain. On the other hand, maybe the men were working at an electrical power plant. There was one in Ashland, Wisconsin. There is a historical society building in downtown Washburn on Highway 13. Or you might try contacting Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin that may have collected the history of the area. Mvh Floyd Hallberg

Hej Rigmor, I telephoned William S. Reynolds in Columbus, Wisconsin this afternoon. He is not the person you are looking for. He was born in 1918 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. I researched in our library this afternoon. I have found William S. and James C. Reynolds in the 1930 U.S. Federal Census. They were living in Sturgeon Bay, Door county, Wisconsin with their parents. Father: Herbert C. Reynolds born 9 April 1903 in Wisconsin, died Dec. 1973 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin Mother: Sigrid E. Johnson born 14 Jan 1904 in either Menominee, Michigan or Sweden ( There is a conflict here)Died 16 July 1990 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin I can try to get the obituaries from the Sturgeon Bay newspapers from inter-library loan. That may help trace where William and James are living when their parents died.. Shall I try that? Hälsningar, Floyd Hallberg Wausau, Wisconsin

Hej Nils, I have searched for Edward Alexius Stomberg in many data banks in Marathon county where Wausau is located. I am sorry to say that I can not find any trace of this man anywhere. I searched the death, marriage, and birth records for the Stomberg name in the Marathon county courthouse. There were no close matches. I went to the Marathon county library and searched the city directories for 1890 and 1901/1902. No Stombergs. I searched the county-wide index to tombstones in all the cemeteries, and again, I had no luck. I searched the U.S. Federal Census records through 1930 and could find no trace. I searched for Stomberg in www.Ancestry.com, and found nothing close. It is possible he changed his name on his arrival in the USA? Do you have any other possibilities or leads for him that I could use? Hälsningar, Floyd Hallberg

Hej Ingrid, I drove up to Merrill on Friday. I visited the library, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and Lincoln county courthouse. Pastor James Primley found the confirmation entry for Gustava Charlotta Olson dated 2 June 1895, and he made me a copy for you. I will send an image of that to you. Pastor Primley is quite an elderly man, and he was very interested to help in your research. In the courthouse, I went to the Register of Deeds office that keeps the vital records of births, deaths, and marriages. I found the marriage record entry for Gustava Charlotte Oleson (with an “e” in the name) in Volume 2, Page 333, Number 49 of the Marriage Records. They were married 1 July 1899 in Merrill by Pastor A. W. Hirstendahl. Subscribing witnesses: Nels Johnson and Frank Suilander She married Ole P. Hej Lena, Here is a reply to a posting that I made. The nice lady found Karl Hansson information. Here is the e-mail today from Sylvia Marcotte in Minnesota: ********************************* I just got back from Duluth a wee bit ago and checked my e-mail to find one for you. I stopped in Moose Lake and got the obituary for you. If and when I go to MN historical society do you want me to be his death certificate. It won;'t be a certified copy but a copy of it. He had two brothers that lived near him. I checked the obituaries and his brother Swan died in 1959. Do you want his obituary too? He also had a sister living in Poplar, WI and wonder if Ernest didn't move down there after Swan died. Will put the orbit in tomorrows mail. Now I know his father was Hans Peterson and his name was Hanson. He was born in Sweden. Charles W Hanson, 83 Blackhoof, a resident of the Barnum and Blackhoof area since 1914, died Sunday at a Sandstone hospital. He was born in Blekinge, Sweden and married Jennie Olson in Sweden in 1895. She died in 1898. Mr Hanson came to the United State in 1904 and lived in superior eight years. Later he was a timber worker in Minnesota and Wisconsin several years. He is survived by a son, Ernest in Sweden; three brothers, Otto Poplar, Wis and Ernest and Swan, Blackhoof and two sister, Mrs Gust Hanson, Poplar and Mrs Cecilia Anderson in Sweden. Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at Elim Lutheran church, Blackhoof by the Rev Kenneth H Carsen. I will check and see where he is buried I assume it is probably in the Blackhoof cemetery. We have some friends that live very close to that cemetery. Would you want a picture of their headstones or whatever they might have? I will get Swans obituary if you want that too. If and when I go to Duluth I will see if any of the 3 were naturalized in MN. Do you have census records for them. They would be in the 1920 census. I can get that for you in Duluth too or the MN Historical Society. All for now, will still be sending the obit but thought you might be curious in the meantime. Hej Lena, I have searched for this man in the 1920 and 1930 census in Minnesota, but I do not get a good match. If the age is correct, then the emigration year is wrong. In 1920, he would have been 45 or 46 on the census and 55 or 56 on the 1930 census. I used the Soundex search because so many names of immigrants were anglicized here. Regards, Floyd Hallberg

Hej Jenny, I have not researched this question. However, I believe most grave sites are permanent. For example, in Rockford, Illinois my parents are buried in the Scandanavian cemetery with perpetual care for all the graves. In visiting old cemeteries, I have seen gravestones that are 150 years old. I am not aware of any places that reserve the plot for only 50 years like in Sweden. Maybe someone knows more about this than me. Hope this helps. Hälsningar Floyd Hallberg Wisconsin, USA

Hi Paul, I have the HFL (Clerical Survey) for 1830-1861 for Fagerhult on indefinite loan at our local Family History Center. If you have earlier information, I could check that microfilm for the parents. There are two later films for the HFL covering 1861through 1897. They would definitely have the info you want. If you live in Rockford, you could try the Family History Center on Alpine Rd. and Rural St. Being a Swedish community, maybe someone has ordered that film too. Floyd Hallberg Wausau, WI

Hej Christian, I think I have the answer for you now. I talked to Ruth, the only surviving daughter of Carl Lundin, but she said she never knew where Carl was from in Sweden. She did say that Carl Lundin and Hedvig Andreasdotter were cousins (f. 30 April 1885). She said all the children were born in Varna, Illinois which is quite close to Magnolia. My software shows that Carl was born 18 July 1879 in Sweden. I checked my source paper file for the Lundin family. I found a letter dated 8 Nov. 1999 from Cecile Lundin, the oldest daughter. She listed the birth dates of all the children and her parents. Here is exactly what she wrote: “My father: Carl Edward Lundin born July 18, 1879. Said original name was Olson. Army training was compulsory at age 18, and they said there were too many Olson's so they changed his name to Lundin.” I also checked the paper file for Hedvig Andreasdotter. In there I found my note that her daughter, Helga, told me in a phone conversation that her mother, Hedvig Andreasdotter, and Carl Lundin were cousins. Now look at your file and you will find Karl Edvard f. 18 July 1879, son of Ingrid Maria Håkansdotter and Olaus Gustafsson Stubb. He is a cousin of Hedvig on your file. Good match! I think everything matches pretty good. There are descendants only from Ruth Lundin. The other four girls did not have any children. Let me know if I should do something.

Hej Mats, Lewis told me that Lars died when he was about 70 years old in 1920. Since the Lars you refer to was born in 1849, then it looks like the same Lars Christopherson. Let me know if I need to call Lewis again. Best regards, Floyd

Hej Mats, I found one person near Staples, Minnesota. His name is Lewis Christopherson. Address is Rural Route 2, Staples, Minnesota. A rural route is out of town. (I will have to look up the Zip code for you also.) The telephone number is 218-894-1174. I could telephone him to verify if he is one you are searching for. What would I ask him to verify that I have the correct person? Please advise. Regards, Floyd Hallberg

Hello Marianne, I was unsuccessful in my search on the microfilm of births for Högsby. Where did you find your information? I don't want to make the same mistake another time. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Floyd Hallberg

HiHarold, No, I didn't see Tigerström either. Being such an unusual name, perhaps it is a name assigned during some military service. Therefore I searched for the given name Carl Fredrik. Börge and Inger Hallberg are not related. If you have other inquiries from the Högsby parish, we have a few reels of HFL and births, deaths, and marriages at this local FHC. I could do some searching for you. Best regards, Floyd

Hello Harold, I went to the local FHC to search for this person. I searched from 1800 through 1821 in the Högsby parish birth records just in case there was a typo error in the birth year. However, I did not see anyone named Carl Fredrik. There were a few Carl Johans and a Carl August, but nothing matched your information. On the same microfilm were the marriages in that parish, but I found nothing for them in 1837. I wasn't sure if they were married there or in another parish, but I searched anyway. I used Reel no. 0137706 from the Family History Center. Högsby parish, Kalmar, Sweden. Do you have more information on these people? Regards, Floyd Hallberg Wausau, WI, USA

Hello Birgitta, As a start, go to www.lindsborg.org This site has several places in its directory to look and to inquire about who there in Lindsborg could help you trace the descendants. It is a city that is extremely proud of its Swedish heritage. The Chicago descendants would be much harder to track. Good Luck. Floyd Hallberg, Wausau, Wisconsin, USA

Hello Tina, I need more information about Harry and Carl if you have it. I tried searching for the 2622 Agryle St. address in Chicago. There does not seem to be an Agryle St. Did you perhaps mean Argyle instead. However, there is no 2622 address for Argyle St. either. The closest I found is 2618 and 2624. If you can send more details, maybe I can find something. You did not complete an E-post so it is difficult to communicate with you. Regards, Floyd

My father had his passage paid by a farmer near LaRose, Illinois in return for working from planting time until harvest time. That was in 1903. His brother did the same in 1902.

Hi Annika, If you want to know more about the building(s) of the 1893 World Exhibition, log onto britannica.com I found some good history there. It states that there were 12000 workers involved in its construction. There are few buildings still there: Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum are a couple that I have been in. Did you get the map I sent? Best regards, Floyd

Hi Christian and Marianne Thank you, Christian. You know it is difficult for me to stumble through the Swedish. I suggested Englewood in Chicago because it was a favorite Swedish area which included my aunt and uncle.(Helga Edla Serafin Johansdotter). Secondly, this location was close to the site of the World Exhibition of 1893 that Gustafs' construction crew worked on. Dixon is a long way off maybe 100 English miles. Thats all so far. Best regards

Hello, I do not live near Chicago, but I will try to help you. I have found missing people in the Chicago area before. First though, I can not find Eaglewood on the Illinois map. Could it have been Englewood? That was an area in Chicago, I think. Do you have more address information? Secondly, do you have a death date of the lady that was giving birth? I will try to get a newspaper on microfilm for that time period. It may have a good obituary to help trace these people.
