Hello, I am searching for relatives of Catharina
Sjoberg(Vistram) b 1865. Had two daughters
Gertrud Elin b 1890 and Anna Lovisa b 1887,
in Stode parish.
Anna Lovisa, my grandmother  who arrived in
the U.S. in 1893,  had rec'd a letter from her
sister Ellen Naslund dated 7 May 1920. At that
time their Mother, Catharina was still alive as
was their stepfather. ? name
Vistram(Wistram).  He was to be 84 on his
coming birthday, the 25th of ?.
Anna left Sweden without her Mother and
sister and I would like to find out who she
traveled with.  I am unable to find this out on
passenger lists thus far.  Thank you for any
help you can forward to me.

Hello TruLee Marier,

Anna Lovisa was a foster-child to a family that emigrated in 1892 and 1893.
The fathers name was Jöns Bergman (born 1847) emigrated in 1892.
His wife Anna Cajsa Åsén (born 1843) emigrated in 1893 together with her (only hers) son Nils Emanuel (born 1887) and your grandmother
Anna Lovisa (their foster-child). (see link below):
Emigrants from Stöde parish = http://www.hemsida.net/wikstrom/register/fanbyn.htm

In 1890 Catharina lived alone with her two daughters Getrud Elin and Anna Lovisa (see link below):
http://www.foark.umu.se/folk/y/person.asp?lannr=22&forsnr=5&pnr=1435

In 1890 Anna Cajsa Åsén lived alone with her son Nils Emanuel (see link below):
http://www.foark.umu.se/folk/y/person.asp?lannr=22&forsnr=5&pnr=1432

In 1890 Jöns Bergman live togeter wis his family (se link below):
http://www.foark.umu.se/folk/y/person.asp?lannr=22&forsnr=5&pnr=1146

What happend between 1890 and 1892 I don't know. Jöns Bergman must have left his wife and children and emigrated together with Anna Cajsa Åsén and her son and foster-child.
I hope this could help a little...

Hello Andreas Wikstrom,
Thank you for all the information you sent to
me
so very quickly.
Grandma Anna was very much a Swedish lady
and was
very proud of where she was born.
I have an abstract of her birth/baptismal record
from Sweden which was sent to her in 1920
by her
sister Ellen Naslund. That is how I knew her
Mothers name and birthdate, without it I would
not have been able to research any further.
Thanks to you I can continue my search from
her
birth.  Her death was 11 October 1972.
Does your name Wikstrom have any relation
to the
Wistrom(Vistram) in my Grandmothers family?
Gratefully,  TruLee Marier  Minnesota

Hello TruLee Mairer,

I was glad that I could help you!

Well..perhaps my name has a realtion to the name Wistrom. You see...the first person in my family that used the name Wikstrom was called Jonas Wikstrom. He had atleast two brothers that took the name Wistrom.

I have not done any research on them so I can not tell you if they are related to your Wistrom.

Do you know the name of your Wistrom person?

Hello Andreas,
Pleased to hear back from you.  When
Grandma Anna
rec'd 1920 letter from her sister Ellen Naslund
(Gertrude Elin in 1890 census I believe) it
stated Wistrom(Vistram) is not your(Anna)
legal
father. Ellen then stated her own legal father
was a Helsing.
She spoke of Mother(Catharina) who was still
alive and Pappa being very ill and to be 84 on
the 25 of ?  I believe the Pappa mentioned had
the name Wistrom and that Catharina, their
mother
possibly had married him.
Ellen also mentioned the boys still home but
may
be leaving.  Anna and Ellens stepbrothers?
I believe Ellen Naslund was her married
name and
the letter was from possibly a place called
Nedansjo.  Please remember this letter had
been
written in Swedish and translated many years
ago.
I hope this is helpful to you.

Hello TruLee Marier,

I don't know how much I could help you.
Nedansjö is a small village in Stöde parish.
And Pappa means Dad, but you probably new that.

Anyway..if your grandmothers stepfather was called Wiström and was 84 years old in 1920. That means that he must have been born around 1836.

I searched in the same database as I used before (1890 census).
And found two males with the name Wiström born around 1836:

Timrå parish
Magnus Teodor Wiström born 1836, Sörberge

Indals parish
Jonas Wiström born 1835, Käfsta

Timrå and Indal is not very far from Stöde parish.

The only persons with the name Wiström living in Stöde parish in 1890 were:

Karl Wiström f. 1852, Hemmansegare, Edsta
Johannes Wiström f. 1855, Hemmansegare, Edsta
Johan Arvid Viström f. 1852, Hemmansegare, Fanbyn
Olof Viström f. 1842, Hemmansegare, Fanbyn

But none of them was born around 1836.
(Johan and Olof was my relatives)

Do you still have this letter? If I could see the original perhaps I could see what is written.

Ellen said that her real father was a Helsing..
Perhaps she meant that he came from Hälsingland (another part of Sweden). In the old days they wrote Hälsingland with an e (Helsingland).
And Helsing. could be short for Helsingland.
But it could perhpas mean something else to...

Ellen also said that the boys were still at home.
Perhaps she talked about her own sons?

Hello Andreas,
Responding to your information last rec'd, your
probably correct in suggesting Ellen probably
meant from Halsingland when she stated her
father
was a Helsing.
With regards to the Wistroms you found, the
one
born in Timra parish in 1836, Sorberge could
be
the one. I will put that on my list of followups.
When Ellen mentioned the boys it did sound
as  if
the boys still lived with Catharina and Pappa.
That will be put in my much later file.
Ellen being Grandma Annas sister will be on
the
list of things to search ahead of Pappa and
the
boys.
Sorry I do not have the original letter of 1920,
but I will check with several cousins for its
whereabouts.
Andreas, its all the pieces of information
collected that make up the whole picture and I
appreciate your assistance so very much.

Hej TruLee Marier !
Anna Lovisa emigrated 1893 together with Anna Cajsa Åse?n, her son,Nils Emanuel and her farm-man Erik Källberg-Viström.
Jöns Berman can be together with them. They lived in the same village Fanbyn.

In some vay it seems me that Catharina Erika her daughters and Carl P Österback lived together with Anna Cajsa Åse?n on her cottage.

Gertrud Elin married Nils Mattias Näslund 1914. G.Elin had a son Karl Henning, born 1910, before the marriage and got a dauhgter,Tora Frideborg,to together with Näslund 1914.
It seems that they lived in Fanbyn 1921 but any connection with the village Nedansjö can has occured during 1914-1921. I can?t se vhatt happened after 1921 but I think I have a track.

Info collected from Stöde Hfl 1890-1900, Fsb 1901-1911 Fsb 1912-1921.

For more personal info pls send me your e-mail address.

N.Lennart Eriksson,
Thank you, thank you for all the information
you
sent me.  It is now making more sense to me
how,
when and with whom Grandma Anna arrived
in the
U.S. and how she ended up with the last
name
Wistrom.
Today after finding your message I accessed
the
Ellis Island site.  It has listed an Erik Wistrom
50, Anna Wistrom 48, Nils Wistrom 17, Louisa
4
(My grandma Anna Louisa), Wilhelm 7, as well
as a
----Bergman 45 and a Gustaf Lindstein 18. I
have
all their birthdates except Gustafs, and they do
match up to what the ages of these people
are.
I do believe you have found the correct people
for me. However, it lists 1892 August 1 as their
arrival date into the U.S. This could very well
be possible as on the Minnesota 1920
census
grandma listed her year of immigration as
1892.
But on her alien registration she stated 1893.
Being as she was so very young when she
arrived
it may have been difficult for her to remember
exactly.
Regarding her sister G.Elin the only info I have
is that she wrote to Grandma in 1920, had
Nedansjo in her address and she had the last
name
of Naslund.  Your additional information on
her
is greatly appreciated.
I will follow up with you again soon.
Gratefully,
TruLee Marier   Minnesota
