Definition of åbo

What does åbo mean? An online dictionary defines it as island but it seems to be a place where a man was a farmhand in 1832.

If the source clearly states that he was a farmhand while being åbo, I think a word-by-word citation of the context, or preferably a snapshot, would help with the interpretation. A person being both a farmhand and an åbo at the same time sounds unusual to say the least.  
 
There were only a few places in Sweden named Åbo (Rosenberg's geographic encyclopedia from 1880 lists three), but probably tens of thousands of men being åbo, in the sense Bo described.

Perhaps it is a marriage record, where dräng usually means bachelor, rather than farmhand.
 
So he could have been a bachelor and tenant farmer.

Can someone please explain the difference between åbo and åboen and Åb?  I have encountered these terms in birth records.  Thank you.

Åboen (or åbon) is the åbo, and Åb is an abbreviation of åbo.
