Nancy, if a person is noted as 'ogift' or 'ej gift' that should be interpreted as the person has not been married up until the note was written. Of course, if a young person is described as 'ogift' in church records, the person could still have married later, after the note was written.
 
But if you are looking at, let's say a family tree and the author noted a person as 'ogift', that would mostly likely mean that the author came to the conclusion that this person never married at all.
