Graves

I have heard that graves are removed after 25 years if there is no one to care for them. That is probably why I could not find my great grandparents grave in Visby.  What does it mean by removed? Do they just take away the Headstone and let the grave stay, or do they actually bury someone else on top of the one in there. They don't actually take the body away do they?  This really has me curious.

The old buried body has generally decomposed by then, so the burial plot is just reused without removing anything below ground. There is usually no embalming and the burial practices encourage decay of the body.
