I have a Family History Library microfilm of the 1860 census of Jämtland. Not used to the Gothic alphabet makes translation difficult and slow. However, the format of the ledgers from parish to parish seem uniform except for Östersund (which seems to just record age, birthdate and household names). Does anyone have a key for the column headings of the parishes (excluding Östersund)? The first appears to be the hemort or place counted. The next group of columns are about seven (7) in number and the headings are written vertically and so small it is difficult to decipher. The next column appears to be the persons in the household and their ages. Then there is a column (numbers), followed by a group of columns, about eight (
, then three(3) columns of numbers followed by a set of about eight (
columns. Since the columns sort data primarily by the household I suppose I could reverse engineer the meanings of the columns, but it would save me considerable time if someone can define for me the column headings.
