Greetings!
My grandfather's brother Nils* Gustav Julius Ström moved to USA 17th of March 1893. According to my father he went to Chicago and he got involved with some not so good people. He was shot to death and thrown in Chicago River.
I have no idea if these facts are correct, but I assume they are. I don´t know when he died, unfortunately, but it should have been before 1900 or the years right after.
Any suggestions on how to find him? (I do not want to go to USA and search through 2 millions of newspapers.

Hi,

I do not promise that I will find this story, but if there is an index to the Chicago Tribune for those early years, it is possible that I might be able to find information on a murder.I do know that the more modern newspapers have a yearly book index.

I will try to check for this murder but the weather is typically winter (snow, snow, and more snow, plus bitter cold) and I might not be able to do anything for a while.

I won't have time to search through many years of newspapers, however, if there isn't an index.

Judy

This is the Chicago Police Department Homicide Record Index, 1870-1930

I tried to find Strom but no luck.

An alphabet letter can be typed in to see the entire list that begins with that letter.

Hi,
Following the above link, I found this gentleman. Might be worth checking.
The headlines are:
Name of Deceased           Vol Page  Event Date  Other Persons Involved

STERN, JULIUS                     1  147A  4/27/1901   HUDGENS, JULIA MRS.

There are two STRUM's as well, but the first names do not match at all.

Best Regards & Merry Christmas!
Thomas
