Hej Judith,
Saturday 2 Jul I put a question regarding Dyk-relatives at ScanGen, the mailing list for genealogists with an interest in the Swedish provinces Skåne (Scania), Blekinge and Halland.
My question
Dyk i Billinge, Bosarp eller Hörja met an overwhelming response. In short the findings were
1) A distant relative of yours (sic!), the genealogical friend of mine and researcher Hjördis Nilsson in Klippan. Her ancestor, Gabriel Jonsson, witnessed the baptizing of your ancestor Samuel [Nilsson Dyk] in 6 Aug 1738 at Hörja parish. (Gabriel Jonsson was brother of Nils Jonsson, who was the father of the baptised Samuel 1738).
2) Hjördis Nilsson asked the professional historian and genealog and specialist of old Hörja parish at the same maillist (ScanGen), Gert Påhlsson, to give information regarding Dyk-relatives at old Hörja. The answer from Gert Påhlsson was overwhelming with many names and Dyk-relatives. A very short summary:
Samuel Nilsson Dyk was baptized at Vedema #3, Hörja parish 6 Aug 1738.
Samuels father: Nils Jonsson, baptized 18 Apr 1714 at Vedema, Hörja parish.
Samuels mother: Elna Svensdotter.
Grandfather: Jon Kierstensson, born abt. 1675 at Ravnahalla, Hörja parish, dead 1742 at Vedema #3, Hörja.
Grandmother:Sigrid Larsdotter, born abt. 1681, dead 1749 at Vedema #3, Hörja parish.
Grandfathers father:Kiersten Jonsson, born abt 1648, dead 1708 at Vedema #3, Hörja. He was farmer at Ravnahalla, Hörja.
Grandfathers mother: Anna Nilsdotter, born abt 1649, dead 1698 at Ravnahalla, Hörja.
Grandmothers father:Lars Dyk, born abt. 1640, dead 1708 at Hörja.
We thank Gert Påhlsson and Hjördis Nilsson for these excellent data. Much of the genealogical data regarding Hörja parish is accessable thru an online database at the following web-address:
www.ddss.nu Judith, I?ll will seperately send you more info regarding your roots at old Hörja parish. BTW, we are deeply impressed that you 'over there' (in the most western part of USA) is so able to do excellent findings in old old Swedish church books by the use of Genline etc. :-)
Ha en bra dag!
