I am looking on information concerning my great great grandfater Magnus Ljung born May 7, 1795
his wife was Brita Petersdotter who was born

Ivan,

The local historical society of Gränna has published a map where one can find, among others, the 47 cottages for soldiers belonging to the Vista company /Jönköping Regiment. The society sell it for 160 SEK for domestic delivery. If you go to their web-site at
http://www.grm.se/hembygd/nyheter.html you may watch a sample of that map.

The society has address an e-mail as follows:

Thank you Bo Nordenfors for this information.  From it I was able to discover more details on Magnus Ljung.  It has been helpful with dates.

Is it possible to look for Magnus father's dates now.  As you can see he was Peter Ljunggren.  I am seeing data which may be his, but it is under Peter Ljungren and Peter Ljung as well as Peter Ljunggren.

To me it looks as if Peter died early in 1802 and maybe his wife Ingrid Karlsdotter remarried to Sven Nilsson in 1804.  But I also wonder if Ingrid was not first wife of Peter, since they were married in 1794.  Without Peter's date of birth it is hard to tell.

Lots of questions.  If you can help that is great.  I appreciate your help.

Have a good day.

One more thing for you Bo Nordenfors, if you would, please.

Here is some data I have from a letter but I do not understand.  Can you help
me identify what the meaning is to the best of your ability.

Befriad.  De bodde da inhyses.

I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Magnus Ljung evidently farmed two places in Rödjestugan for a while, one for the widow Lovisa Ericsdotter born in Ölmstad on 7 April 1792.

Martin Ljung moved in that place in 1841, coming from Ölmstad. The family returned to Ölmstad in 1843.

About 1846 Magnus Ljung was called a rag-and-bone man and was residing at the cottage Rödjestugan, from which he moved to another house in Rödjestugan together with his wife and his daughter Johanna, born 19 January 1837, confirmed in 1851.

In the 1850:ies Magnus was not called rag-and-bone man anymore and the pastor has noted “Frail, released” - the latter one means he had not to go to the “husförhör”.  They were boarding that time.

Thank you Bo Nordenfors for this information.

From it I was able to discover more details on Magnus Ljung and some of my other family members. It has been helpful.

I am now trying to go back and find the parents of Peter Ljunggrem, who you said was Magnus' father.

It appears Peter died early in 1802 and he was 45 years old when he died. But I am having trouble seeing a birth date record for Peter. To me it appears it should be 1756 or 1757.

Also if he was born in 1757, it seems strange to me that he did not marry until 1794.  As he would have been 37 years old at the time. That seems very old for the times.  It has appeared to me, that most men married much younger than that in the 1700's.  What is your opinion?

So I wonder if Ingrid was not first wife of Peter, since they were married in 12/27/1794.

If this information is to much for you to research, I understand.  I do appreciate your assistance.

Have a great day.

Ivan,

It is a matter of time, I think, but hopefully researchers near Ölmstad can assist in the meantime!
