Charles (Carl) Gustave Åkerholm

Family oral history: Charles was born 20 Sep 1850 in Åmål, Dalsland; emigrated from Stockholm in 1866, arrived in Castle Garden, NY on Aug 15, 1866 on vessel Heckla. Settled first in Chicago, Illinois. Father: Per Gustave Åkerholm; Mother Inga Kaisa Furslung. My genealogist could not find him in Åmål or in the emigration abstracts for Älvsborg. He may have changed his name or assumed the identity of some one else. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this is of much help, but a direct anfather to me the tradesman Olof Rosengren (born 1798) was an apprentice for several years (circa 1814-20) in a shop in Stockholm owned by a Mr J.G. Åkerholm. The Åkerholm shop, which was a family business, still existed in the 1880's. I don't remember the years I looked through, but in an address calendar for the city of Stockholm in the late 19th century I did find a couple of listings for Åkerholm. I have been trying to find out if Olof Rosengren (who was in orphan when he came to Stockholm) are related to the Åkerholm family, but so far I have no evidence to support that. In the process I have however learnt that although there's surely more than one Åkerholm family in this country, the name isn't a very common one (different registers suggest that). So maybe you should try to look in Stockholm!
