Magnus Hogman b. 1815

I am trying to find Magnus Hogmans parents,  according to the clerical survey he is stated as being born in 1815 in Skane-now living in Siknas. I have been researching my Swedish line here in the States and have found it difficult, so any help would be more than wonderful.

Skåne is too large, so you need to find a parish name. Follow him backwards from this time period to see if you can find a better birth place than Skåne. (At that time period, Skåne was a province.) On the other hand, you are a VERY lucky person, since the comment lists a more specific location and län (county) in Skåne.You should be able to find his birth, and therefore parents, in his birth record.

Thank-you for your quick response. So how do I go about trying to find the parish in this city? Finding Swedish ancestry hasn't been easy for me, I guess I just don't know where to look.

I suppose you will have to research each one until you find the birth, but it narrows the search considerably to know that city. :-) There are a lot of parishes in Kristianstads kommun (municipality/township) but perhaps only some were there in 1815.

(Or work backwards in the records from 1870 and note where he came from (in the in/out records) and keep going earlier and earlier in time until finally there is a useful record with that place name.)

Kristianstad, Kristianstads can really only refer to the parish of Kristianstad or just possibly Kristianstad Garnison (the parish of the regiment in Kristianstad) or Kristianstad Slott (the castle parish).
The Census states clearly Birth parish - besides, in 1870 the new municipalities (kommuner) were really the same thing as the old parishes (the change had occurred less than 10 years earlier).
 
Unfortunately, there are no little boys called Magnus born in either Kristianstad or Kristianstad Garnison in 1815. And Genline does not have the books for Kristianstad Slott.
 
So, it's just taking Judy's advice and work backward to see where you wind up.

PS. Judy, the parish page you refer to is inaccurate for genealogy use. It states only the parishes of today - and lots of parishes have changed names, been discontinued or been started up quite late.
The very best place to look for parishes is at Skatteverket (the IRS).
