I have read the emigration records for a number of parishes in eastern Kristianstad and have noticed quite a number of emigrants leaving in 1854.  This is the first year I found any saying they were going to N. Amerike.  Was there a significant emigration that year?

I am trying to find out when Carl Fredrik Hageltorn born 1833 Bastad and in Australia by 1863 came to Australia.
Is there a way I can try and find out when he left Sweden and on what ship?

I have been told that the US changed its immigration laws in 1850, thus allowing many more immigrants to qualify, so that greatly increased the numbers of immigrants shortly after that.

In the Emibas database of Swedish emigrants I have found two individuals that were possibly sisters to Carl Fredrik Hageltorn:

Hageltorn, Gustava Carolina Mamsell (unmarried)
b March 24 1836 at Östra Ljungby, Kristianstads län (Skåne) Emigrated August 12/8 1873 from  Båstad 97, Båstad, Kristianstads län (Skåne)
to America. Household examination roll p 151

Hageltorn, Marie Louise  Mamsell (unmarriied)
b November 6 1843 at Farhult, Malmöhus län (Skåne) Emigrated August 12 1873 from Båstad 97, Båstad, Kristianstads län (Skåne)to America.
Household examination roll p 151

I notice that these two were not born in Båstad, which is something to be grateful for, since the church records of Båstad have all burned. Perhaps it will be possible to trace Carl Fredrik through the church records of Farhult and Östra Ljungby?

Best wishes

full name for the father was Carl Fredrik and his place of birth is stated as Christianstad (Kristianstad) in the clerical survey of Båstad AI:1 (1870--1876) pg 104. I have not checked whether Landskrona or Kristianstad is the correct place.
Carl Fredrik and his wife both died in 1870, 12 January and 13 febr. respectively.
A son Anders Christian was born in Båstad 1849.

Appears from book of births Östra Ljungby /1818--1861/ GID: 1737.26.11300, that Adolph Fredrik Thomas was born on the 28 Sept 1833 and that his mother was Else Agneta Bond.
