I am looking for information on Fredric Ludvig Amark who was born December 2, 1837 in Bergsund, Maria Parish and who emmigrated to America in 1863.  I am looking for a passenger list or any other information about him.  I have a book about the Amark family that was written in 1925 that says he emmigrated in 1863 and was never heard from again.  He is my great great grandfather.  He came to San Francisco about 1866 and was a cigar maker.  He married a german girl and had several children.  I am wondering if he came here with a family or married after he got to San Francisco.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Melissa Davis

Hi Melissa!

I guess that you already found the Amark's in the SSDI who died in San Francisco and surroundings:

Edwin Amark b. Nov. 9, 1895 d. Dec. 1977 in Santa Cruz, CA
Fred Amark b. Dec. 4, 1898 d. Mar. 1980 in San Francisco, CA
Leah Amark b. Feb. 9, 1901 d. Oct. 1979 in Santa Cruz, CA (Edwin's wife?)
Walter Amark b. Jun. 1, 1909 d. Jan. 8, 1989 in Burlingame, San Mateo, CA
Jane Amark b. Dec. 23, 1910 d. Apr. 1977 in Burlingame, San Mateo, CA (Walter's wife?)
Edwin Amark b. Nov. 13, 1918 d. Dec. 30, 1996 in San Francisco, CA (son of Edwin & Leah?)
Lillian Amark b. Sep. 16, 1924 d. Jun. 13, 2000 in San Francisco, CA
T Mark b. Jan. 27, 1964 d. Nov 1994 in California

There are also 7 persons named AMARK in the US te pages, 6 of them in CA and one in Arizona

According to the BIRTH registers in CA:

Doris Kaul (or Kanl) b. 20/5/1909 in San Francisco, mother's maiden name AMARK
Florence AMARK b. 11/4/1910 in San Francisco, mother's maiden name Steinbru

According to the DEATH registers in CA:

Sophie AMARK b. as Steinbru in other country Apr. 23, 1872  d. Jun. 26, 1948 in San Francisco
Louis Dunow b. as AMARK in CA Dec. 26, 1869 d. Mar. 6, 1947 in San Francisco
There are 12 more persons connected to the AMARK name in these registers, all of them born from 1899 and later. If you want to receive information re. these other persons you can reply within this same forum or send me an e-mail.

NOTE: Steinbru as above is probably STEINBRUCK which is a German surname.

I did also find an obituary of Mrs. Lillian Dillman AMARK who died in San Francisco in June 2000, married to Edwin G. Amark that preceeded her in death. I can also send this obituary via e-mail.

Finally... I also found FREDERICK AMARK working for a business named Richard Finking located at 119 1/2 Fell, San Francisco in 1889-1890. Someone called Louisa or Louise AMARK worked for Hulse Bradford & Co., same address and same years. He was a clerk and she was seamstress. Might have been his wife.

I hope some of this was new. I found it at www.ancestry.com that for most of the registers requires that you are member which costs some 50 USD per year.

Kind regards

Thank you so much Mats!!  This is wonderful.  I do have most of it but there were a couple of tidbits I didn't have.  Such as Edwin Jr. and Lillian Dillman Amark.  Louis Dunow is a real find.  She is the one you see as Louisa Amark working at the same address as her brother Frederick.  I'm so glad to find her since all I had was that record and didn't know who she married.

Most of the California Amarks, I know well.  They are all my great Aunts and Uncles and I've found them on Census records.  The german girl I was talking about is seen simply as Babette or Bertha on census records and she and Fredric Ludvig Amark were the parents of the Frederick and Louisa you see working at that same address.  I'm wondering if he brought Babette with him or married her in California.  I can't find any records of her before she married.  I think a passenger list will help alot.

Thanks again!
