I agree with you Chris!

We know that a Blenda and a Christina Johannesdotter emigrated from Stenbrohult in 1885 and in 1891. We know that their mothers name was Elin Carlsdotter.

You will find them in the Swedish census 1880, living with their mother Elin Carlsdotter (a widow) and a number of siblings in Lockakulla, Stenbrohult. One younger brother was namned Carl Alfred, born 1876. I believe he is the same person who emigrated from Stenbrohult in 1895 and I'm not surprised to see that his destination was Boston, MA:

I have come to the same conclusion as you Chris with Christina/Christine Johannesdotter/Johnson and her siblings from the parish of Stenbrohult.

If we can find Christine/Christinas siblings in the 1910 federal census of the U.S, we might be able to find Christina/Christine herself during the lost years.

In that case, Elin Carlsdotter became a pretty old lady since she was born 1838.

From the Swedish census 1880 (all children with the patronymic Johannesson/Johannesdotter;

Carlsdotter, Elin
Torpareänka
b. 1838 in Virestad (Kronobergs län, Småland)
Widow, mother

Lockakulla
Stenbrohult (Kronobergs län, Småland)

Children;

Kristina, b. 1862 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1891)
Carolina, b. 1865 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1884)
Blenda, b. 1867 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1885)
Sofia, b. 1870 in Stenbrohult (did she emigrate?)
Johan, b. 1872 in Stenbrohult (did he emigrate?)
August, b. 1874 in Stenbrohult (did he emigrate?)
Carl Alfred, b. 1876 in Stenbrohult (emigrated in 1895)
Johannes, b. 1879 in Stenbrohult (died in Riseberga, Sweden in 1950)

And in addition to the above siblings, the oldest daugther Kerstin Maria Johannesdotter, born in Stenbrohult 1860, who probably emigrated at a very young age.

Just a brief summery of what you have found Chris. I hope I did not omission or missed out any of the siblings.

An update of the children of Elin Carlsdotter;

Kerstin Maria, b. 1860 (probably emigrated)
Kristina, b. 1862 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1891)
Carolina, b. 1865 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1884)
Blenda, b. 1867 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1885)
Sofia, b. 1870 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1886)
Johan, b. 1872 in Stenbrohult (emigrated 1888)
August, b. 1874 in Stenbrohult (died in 1881)
Carl Alfred, b. 1876 in Stenbrohult (emigrated in 1895)
Johannes, b. 1879 in Stenbrohult (died in Riseberga, Sweden in 1950)

A very touching sight. When Elin Carlsdotter died in 1927, seven of her nine children had emigrated to the U.S. One son died at a young age, however, she had one son left in Sweden (Johannes who died 1950).

My grandfather was telling me some stories of what he remembered from his grandmother, Christine, and the Larson last name came up. He told me that there were a bunch of Swedish people in the neighborhood that all hung out together and many were related. He spoke of Christine's sisters and the Larson family. They use to visit and bring him hard candies. My grandfather also told me that Christine had an accident--either fell off a roof or fell off a sleigh--and became crippled. She was a very tough lady and continued to work in her victory garden everyday. She would drag herself from each flower bed. As a child, he would go bring her bread and water before school and when he came home, she was still outside gardening and he would bring her more bread and water. He also told me of how she always drank her coffee/tea from the saucer and not the cup, which I thought was funny! He really loved her. He said she was a beautiful lady and will find a picture to show me. She passed away when he was in the ARMY. He took leave and she passed the day after he came home. He was greatful to see her one last time. My grandfather also talked about his father Edwin. He said he and his wife Margaret were very well liked by everyone. I have only heard nice things of Edwin. He was very tall, too. I believe he died of a liver problem due to the fact that he started drinkning later in life. My grandfather never knew one thing about his grandfather. He is so appreciative of this information. We all are!

Very sad story about Carolina Sofia Forsberg....
There is much debate about vaccinations for children here in the US. I now really see the importance considering how many past family members have passed from illnesses we are all now vaccinated against--tuberculosis, typhoid fever, etc. Glad to see Elin Carlsdotter lived such a long life! Hope is was a happy one!

Drinking coffee out of a saucer was very common in Sweden, my relatives born in the 1800s always did that. Preferably with a lump of sugar on the tongue.

It seems we do have the right family, we just have to find the other sibligs who emigrated. The censuses are very poorly transcribed som they may be in them, but under strange versions of their names. If we are lucky, there is an estate inventory which will give the names of her children as married, and maybe their addresses in 1928.

I just had the estate inventory for Elin Carlsdotter. Unfortunately, the names of the daughters are not given, but it states that she had 5 daughters, all in America and one son, Johannes Johansson living in Skäralid, Skåne.  She left 502 kronor and 70 öre after deductions for the funeral. 595 kronor  were in her savings book. That was not an insignificant sum of money then. DAted 10 Jan 1928.

I just came from my Grampy's house on Brigham Court. I had written up everything you all have discovered and printed out a map of Sweden with Gunnarskog highlighted. He was so excited! He also found a picture of his fahter, Edwin, back in the 1930's when he had a chance to try out for the Boston Red Sox (famous baseball team). Edwin's wife, Margaret, was pregnant with my grandfather at the time and said there was no way she would have her husband traveling all across the country just to play baseball! Therefore, Edwin never got his shot as a major league baseball player. I will go visit Edwin Jr. this week to bring his a copy, also. Eddie lives in Natick, too. Thanks again!  Courtney

Are there any photos of Frank Frans Gustaf Forsberg anywhere--passport? immigration papers? etc. No one in my family has ever seen a picture of him and we are all very curious to see what he looks like. I was going to attach a picture of Edwin in 1930, but I don't see a way for me to attach a photo. I didn't know if families sent in photos to be stored in the database for other people to see who might also be looking for that person. Thanks again!}

There are English language instructions on the left side of the home page. Those instructions include information on how to include an image.

*************************************

To include images

The simplest way of inserting an image is to do as follows:

   1. Press the Bifoga följande... button. It's below the area where you type the text of your message.
   2. A new window will be popped up. It has instructions in English, so simply follow those.
   3. When the new window has closed, you will see a code in your message text similar to this one: (Look at the English directions. For some reason, this doesn't show up in my message.)

 This code represents your image. When you press the button Förhandsvisa/posta meddelande, you will see a preview with your image in its context. If you want to move the image in the text, you move the code around in the text.

Note that the image must be in either gif or jpg format, and the maximum size is 100 kByte.

This is a photo of Edwin Fosberg, son of Frans Gustaf Forsberg and Kristina Johannessdotter.(Edwin is on the right)The picture was taken in 1930 in Massachusetts. Edwin loved playing baseball and was really good at it. He was married to Margaret Jones at this time and they were pregnant with their second son, Charles, my grandfather.
