I have desecendants who owned a farm in or near åkebo, kalmar, sweden for hundreds of years. My family had a professional geneologist look up our family roots there. They said that in Sweden, each farm has a name, like a village. åkebo was and still is the name of the Carlson farm about 4-5 miles from the city of Målilla. However, I am finding it hard to find any traces of our family since at this time patronymics was still being used when our Carlson family left (1871).

Carl Johan Jonasson was the man who left Mållila with his children shortly after his wife died in 1869. His father was Jonas Samuelsson, and he had two brothers, Johan and Lars. All three had come from the vicinity of Tuna, Sweden and purchased a large farm in åkebo, which they divided among themselves. Carl was born in åkebo 09/16/1827. When Carl Johan was a man, he took over his fathers farm until the time of his migration.

I am looking for information about Johan and Lars Jonasson, Carl's brothers. I would like to know if they have any family left. I do have some dates of his marriage, his children, his father & mother and grandparents if this provides help. I also want to know if there are any burial records for his wifes death in Sweden.

The only information I have been able to find on Lars is this: Lars moved to the village/farm of Hyggelsebo in Målilla parish in 1845 (Household Examination Rolls 1842-1851 pg 134 - Genline Reference 115.9.41500) On 15 Mar 1845 he married Anna Sofia Nilsdotter, born 4 Nov 1824, daughter of Nils P Eriksson and Martha Lisa Nilsdotter. They had sons Nils Johan, born 2 Feb 1846 and Carl Gustaf born 27 Oct 1848. In 1851 the family moved from Hyggelsebo to the town of Målilla.

I would like to track down any living descendents of Lars.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I will be visiting the Kalmar area in June and am eager to visit the homestead if it can be located.  Does anyone know directions to the Malilla church?  I read it is still there.

The answers to Ashley's questions can be found here. Elisabeth's doubts about Nils Johan Larsson in Hammarsebo are well-founded - he belongs to another family.
