Hello Egil,

I think we need more information from you regarding Berta to help you. Don?t you have any more information about her birth-date and when she came to USA.
regards
Lena

Their home is listed as Amerika, so obviously they had paid a visit to the old country.

Egil,

The year of immigration is given in the U.S. Federal Censuses for 1900-1910-1920. The month and year of birth are given in the 1900 census.Perhaps with that year of immigration, the people might be easier to find on their first trip to the U.S. The parish name would probably have been listed at that time.

You could find a birthdate in the death certificate and sometimes the birthplace and names of parents are listed there too.

The Swenson Center has microfilmed Swedish-American church records until about 1930. If these people joined one of those churches, you could find the parish name from Sweden, a birth date, the immigration year, and much information about baptisms, confirmations, marriages, funerals, etc.

The Swenson Center also has a large assortment of Swedish-American newspapers, and those have more detailed obituaries than the English language newspapers. You can borrow those microfilms through interlibrary loan.A few of those were published in Brooklyn.

You would have to visit or pay them to research for you, but there are some wonderful records there.

There are also some STATE censuses for New York, taken in different years than the federal censuses.

If your ancestors joined a lodge, there could be birth parish information there. There are probably some microfilmed records to check.

If you can find some relatives in U.S. records, such as the church records or census records, then perhaps those people might be found on the Emigrant CD and you could trace your ancestors that way. I found a number of my ancestors by tracing their siblings.

Good luck!

Judy
