I am stuck...
I am trying to get past Klas Johansson born in Timmele, Västra Götland  17 Dec 1854.
Died 29 Jul 1910 in Grayson, Saskatchewan, Canada
Swedish Clerical Surveys 1880- 1896 Älvsborg / Od page 105 shows him as married in 26 June 1880 and his birth location as Timmelhed. Living on Hermanstorp Österge
I have him listed 1867 -1880 Älvsborg/ Dalum page 24 line 12
I have numerous citations of him marrying and having children.. passage on a ship  etc but I can't seem to find his parents etc.
Thanks so much
Lance

I was wrong - the Claes Herman mentioned in my previous post must be another person. He is later found in Börstig parish where he was still alive in 1931 (Börstig AIIa/1 p. 117).

Klas Johansson can be found in Timmele AI/8 p. 263 where he is listed as living with his mother, the widow Maria Quist, born in Espered in 1828.

Maria Quist can also be found in Timmele AI/9 p. 269 with her son Herman, born May 31st 1860, and daughter Matilda, born March 10th 1863.

However, the records are confusing (to say the least). In the birth records, Herman's father is given as Johannes Andersson. Maria's patronymic is Bengtsdotter. Matilda's father is given as Johannes Johansson, and Maria's patronymic is Pettersdotter. They are said to live at Aspelund (Timmele C/4 pp. 366, 374). Johannes and Matilda can be found in Timmele AI:7 p. 270 but here Johannes' wife is Anna Caisa Johansdotter, and no Herman is mentioned.

Klas moved from Timmele to Dalum parish Oct. 24th 1876 (Timmele B/1 img. 32):

He's listed as farmhand (dräng) in Dalum AI/6 p. 24:
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0043469_00033

He then moved from Dalum to Od parish where he can be found with his wife Klara Lovisa Efraimsdotter (Od AI/8 p. 105):

If (and that's a big if, of course) Klas' parents were Johannes Andersson and Maria Bengtsdotter (the persons listed as parents in the birth records for Maria Quist's children Herman and Matilda), then I've probably found their marriage in Rångedala E/3 img.12:
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0060000_00012
Inga Maria Bengtsdotter's birth year and parish fits with Maria Quist's.

They moved from Rångedala to Marum parish after their marriage according to Rångedala AI/7 p. 14. I haven't been able to find them there, nor have I been able to find Klas' birth record or anything that could explain how Maria Bengtsdotter became Maria Quist.

Maybe Maria married more than once hence the name change?

Possible, although I haven't found any marriage record confirming this. Maria might have changed her name for another reason.
1872 she is said to be a widow. And the birth records for her children Herman and Emma Christina suggests that her husband should be Johannes Andersson. But I can't find any fitting death notice in Timmele.
The birth records for Herman, Emma Christina, Matilda, all say that the family lived in Aspelund, but thay can't be found there in the corresponding parish record.
It's all very confusing and maybe one of those cases where one never will be able to close the gaps.

I am trying to find the source  I have a date of 24 July 1863 of his death in Timmele, Västra Götaland, Sverige..  I checked the death book it is not in there.
Yes it is definitely “one of those “ that we may never know.
