Swedish language / Is "Crayfish" a likely cause of death?

On the death record for my 2nd great-grandmother Elizabeth Cathrina Persdotter who died 04 Jun 1893 in  Hällesjö, Jämtland, Sverige, the cause of death is noted as "kräfta" which google translates to "crayfish".  Two rows down on the document there is a another person with the same cause noted.  Is there another meaning to this word?

Hi all

I am looking for the birth place of a Juliana Jonsdotter.  In the scanned records available on ancestry there is a note on her marriage record (Hällesjö C:3 page 48) but it is not legible.  Are the records in ArkivDigital better quality than those on Ancestry?   If so, a subscription might be worthwhile.

Hi all

My great-great grandmother Maria Sofia Hermansdotter Rull emigrated from Finland to Sweden in 1873.  I have attached her Utflyttade record from the parish of Solf (Sulva) in Finland.  I am seeking help with the abbreviation in the destination column.  This record is dated 1 July 1873 and her arrival in Hällesjö sn, Jämtland is dated 21 Aug 1873.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

The attached photo was taken around 1920 and appears to be taken in a church.  My grandmother (Marta Halen) is the tall girl in black second from the left in the back row and she lived in the Hägra area at this time.  Can anyone advise which church / village this photo was taken and what was the occasion for the photo?

Thanks for your help.

Just one more thing - what does "Fältjägaren" mean?  Is that a military rank or a reference to occupation?
Thanks, Linda from Canada

Thanks for the help.  It gives me good information on his life.

In the Jamtland Offerdal Death  Records 1800-1861 (Page 97, Image 53) there is quite a long write-up about Jon Tjeder who was my 4th great grandfather - it seems to include information on his military service and such.  Could anyone be so kind as to translate this for me?
Thanks in advance, Linda from Canada

In the church records for Follinge Jamtland the death record for my 5th great grandfather Pehr Olofsson Brunberg on January 28 1799 describes him as a "Nybyggaren" which Google translates as "colonist".  Can anyone provide additional information or explanation about that reference?

Thanks for all the information provided.  I continue my search on Juliana Jonsdotter and am looking for help with a word on a birth record in the Hällesjö parish for her daughter Sigrid Lisa born September 2, 1837.  The mother's name is noted as something like Gähle.  Her second daughter's birth - Marta Christina on May 4 1845 shows the mother's name as Juliana.

Could someone have a look at the record and provide an opinion as to what it might be?  Maybe if we use that name we might have better luck tracing her history.

Regards, Linda from Canada

Hej Stefan

Thanks for the information.  I think you are correct in your research.  Gunne's second son and first daughter had middle names of Gustaf and Gustava - which would make sense with the mother's name in the family you found.

Kindest regards,
Linda from Canada

Gunne's first son was named Sven Petter - does that help with guessing his parent's names?

Markaryd / Gunne Svenson born 18/4/1838 in Markaryd, Kronoberg
« skrivet: 2016-05-14, 07:46 »
My great-great grandfather was born in Markaryd in 1838, moved to Hällesjö, Jämtland, Sweden where he married Elizabeth Catarina Persdotter in 1871.  Several of his children moved to Canada including my great-grand mother Hilda Kristina.  I do not have the name of his parents or the village of his birth.  It would appear that all the records for 1838 are no longer available (I am on Ancestry.ca).  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might track down his parents?

Thanks for the help.

Regards, Linda from Canada

Thank you for the information.  They emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada.  Herman was my great-grandmother's brother.

Herman and his sister were born in Finland - their father was Herman JOHANSSON GÄSTGIFVARS.  Does that help explain anything?  He never used the Rull when her came to Canada.

Thanks, Linda from Canada

Swedish language / Meaning of Rull Arrendator in birth record
« skrivet: 2016-05-12, 07:39 »
In the birth record for Jonas Henning, son of Herman Hermansson and Anna Näsvall, born Feb 28 1902 in Västernorrland, Håsjö, I find the words Rull Arrendator behind Herman’s name.  This is not on birth records for other children they had.  Is this an occupation or part of his name?

Thanks for any help, Linda from Canada

Note - family may have been living in Hissmofors / Krokom just before emigration.

Thanks again, Linda from Canada

My great grandfather Erik Valentin (or Walentin) Halén (or Hallén) was born in Långsele in 1861 (mother was Anna Märta Råström) and emigrated to Canada in 1912.  His wife Anna Maria Göransdotter and their children emigrated in 1922.  Great - grandfather spoke of a family bible containing the family genealogy which was unfortunately sold prior to the emigration in 1922.  If anyone had information about this bible I would appreciate copies of the family tree it contains.

Thanks, Linda from Canada

Attached is a snip from the Hällesjö, Jämtland church records C:3 page 48 of the marriage of my 4th great-grandmother Juliana Jonsdotter.  I would like help in translating - especially the last few words.  If you have access to the newer digitized records it might be easier to read the bottom line.

Thanks for any help.

Jonas Magnusson Nylander 8-5-1824  Lund and Ansjö, Hällesjö, Jämtland

I am looking for assistance in finding the birth record for my 3rd Great Grand-father Jonas Magnusson Nylander.  We have records for his death in 1916 in Hårdgård (Hårgård), Hällesjö sn, Jämtland (which state a birth date of 8-5-1825)  and records of his residence in Hällesjö parish throughout the 1800's Household Examination records.  Family records suggest he was born in the Hällesjö parish but I have looked long and hard at the church records available through Ancestry.com and cannot find any record.  We believe his mother was Juliana Jonsdotter as was noted on the 1872 - 1882 Household Examination included below at which point she was widowed from Eric Olafsson.   Other family trees on Ancestry.com suggest his father was a Magnus Magnusson born 25-1-1785 in Ansjö, Hällesjö but this I cannot confirm.

Thanks for any help,

Can anyone help me with the translation of this excerpt from a church record for the baptism of my 3rd great grandfather?  This is from the Hällesjö church records, 1824 April.

I understand the basics - month, names, etc but not the other words.

My grandfather Erik Gunnar Nylander was born in  Hällesjö, Jämtlands län in 1907.  Attached is a photo of his school class taken between 1913 and 1919 when he emigrated to Canada.  I believe the school would be in Ansjö or Hällesjö.  I am looking for any information about the school location, the teacher and who the students are.
