Haga / SV: Looking for help to find John Henry Rosenquist
« skrivet: 2019-08-13, 08:48 »
Hi
Thanks to all the inputs from the above people I have been able to discovera lot of the history
of Johan Henrik Rosenquist. Although there are still some holes to be filled. Yesterday I discovered
that Johan Henrik's half sister Emma Dorothea 1859-1934(daughter of mother Christina Maria)
immigrated through Denmark and England to Australia with her husband Oscar Emanuel Bidstrup and
son Charles Emanuel. Sadly the son died at the age of 22 in 1904 so there are no continuation of the family
there.
Has anyone experience what was the most common route to travel to Australia/ New Zealand.
Johan Henrik disappear in records after his prison case in 1873 and I wonder whether he fled with a ship
and then continued to New Zealana and later Cook Oslands. I have not found him in any sjomanhus apart
from the above mentioned record where he disembarked from Scotland in 1872. He is not registrered
in the houses around Goteborg or Stockholm.
thanks

Ulla

Hi Staffan and Ben
I appreciate the answers you give me, it helps out a lot
if there are any more records I will be very happy.
The story of Johan Henrik is very interesting he arrived in Cook Islands, Pacific Ocean in 1880
had four children with to native women, then left for American Samoa where he worked on a scooner
sailing people around the islands. He married a native woman Nanave and had one daughter wither her
called Nora. Nora's great grand daughter is my contact. Rosenquist is mentioned in many of the
Mormon missioners handwritten diaries, his wife baptized to the Mormon faith and Johan Henrik did
as well in 1893, that is where I got the information of where he came from.

Thank you again
Ulla

Hi Anita
Thank you so much for the pages you send, amazing you found this so quickly I have spend the last ten days looking through so many pages and it is very difficult for me to decipher the writings. Although I have not yet understood how Johan Peter turned into Rosenquist when his father was a Bengtson?? Also how do you show that Christina Maria Carlson, Johan Peter and Johan Henrik Rosenquist are connected. I have not established any birth record for Johan Henrik or the marriage between the parents. I have had a feeling all along that there was something in the family like a crime, prison or parting of the family. If you have more entries to help me out. Very much appreciated. A big thank you Ulla

Hi I need help, a woman from Samoa, Pacific Islands has requested my help in locating a Swedish great great grandfather of hers.
His name as listed with his Mormon Baptism in 1893 is John Henry (Johan Henrik??) Rosenquist birth 07.05.1854, Brevike, Carlsburge
father John Henry Rosenquist, mother Maria Carlson.
The family tells that he arrived in Cook Island in the 1880' and later moved to Samoa
where he married a native woman. He died in an accident at the harbour of Samoa in 1912 and is buried in Pago Pago, Samoa.

I have checked all records of Brevik, Skaraborg, and the surrounding parishes with no results, not him or his parents, all Sjomanshus
in the area and even further away, with no results at all, nothing familiar at all. The immigration records does not give any clues either.
The only records I have found are two records from Ullervad, Skaraborg telling us that Johan Henrik Rosenquist a sailor born 07.05.1854 is living in Ullervad since 1873 after having had a court case In Goteborg January 1873. I am not quite sure what the verdict
was something about a five year sabbatical.
I attach the earlier file from 1870-1875 if anyone is able to decipher what it says as birth location (I think that W. H. is Wester Haga
(Goteborg))
I would highly appreciate the help and if anyone have ideas of how to locate this person in places I might not have thought about.
I am a Danish woman living in Israel (and deal a lot with military research WW1) and not so familiar with the Swedish records.

I thank in advance for any help given
