Swedish language / Help Translating Court Documents for Mördad
« skrivet: 2018-05-09, 19:25 »
I have been researching Samuel Petersson who died Oct 1858 of mördad (murder) and have now received the court documents regarding this.  Thank you Erik (aem2468) for providing the info to receive this-you were correct!  I have received 3 files from Riksarkivet, one from Konga court (18 pg), and 2 from Göta Hovrätt (12 pg and 2 pg) and need help translating these.

I've attached the link for the last file of 2 pg hoping that it can be accessed.  If not please let me know and I'll figure something else out.  The first 2 files have a lot more info but I want to make sure that this works first.  Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thank You!!

Thanks Per and Eric!  This gives me a place to start.

Eric, I agree that Frans is a strong possibility, but then again you never assume anything.  Hopefully I can obtain the court records and verify!

Thanks again,

Eileen

Samuel Petersson, b. 1814, has a notation in the Kronoberg Algutsboda 1855-1862 Husförhör Al:7 Pg 306 of 58 18/10 mördad.  His death record, Kronoberg, Algutsboda Död 1837-1862 C:5 Pg 811 also states the cause of death as mördad although the death date is 26/10.  This translated to murder.  Is there any way to research this further and get more information as to what happened?  Thanks for any advice!!

Swedish names / Surname Liro, Americanization of ??
« skrivet: 2018-02-18, 21:52 »
In my research I have found a Wisconsin marriage record for Ida Grants, father C. Grants, mother Mary Carlson (I know her parents to be Carl Johan Petersson Gräns and Maria Charlotta Carlsdotter) and John Carlson, parents C.M. Johnson and Stina Liro.  I believe John's name is actually Carl Johan Carlsson.  His father is probably Carl M. Johansson based on the marriage record info.  But what has me stumped is John's mother's name.  It seemed uncommon enough to search but I didn't find anything other than a Stina Lyra (Eliassdotter) but she ended up marrying Nils Olsson 25 May 1851, not a Carl.  Any ideas or suggestions as to what John's mother's surname could be?

I am looking for some help with the entry for Olaf Ingelberg's son Henrik in the Kronoberg, Kalmar, Algustboda AI:6 Household Examination 1814-1820 GID:2.32.24800.  I believe there is a notation after Henrik's name dod, but no date.  Also, there is a notation in the last column that I can't decipher which is my main concern.  He is not listed with Olaf and family on the 1821-1827 Household Examination Roll, AI:7 GID:2.33.69000.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Bo, Thank you so much for your help!  Would there be any info in Kjerstin's illegitimate birth since this was against the law?  If so, where do you go about looking for that info?  My only other question is where would the Ängberg name come from?  He must have added it after Anna Brita's birth in 1808.  The family used that name since then and use the Americanized Engberg today.  By the way, love the note about the morning gift.  I keep learning something new everyday.  Thanks again,

I am having a little trouble deciphering the entry for Jonas Häkensson (?) Ängberg and his family in the Household Examination Rolls, Örebro, Närke och Värmand, Tysslinge, AI:12 1806-1810 GID:191.36.95400.  It looks like Jonas's wife came from Vintrosa (?) in 1810, although I can't find her there.  Also, I can't make out where Jonas, his wife Kierstin (?) and her son Pehr Pehrsson were born.  I did find Anna Brita's death in 7 May 1811 in Tysslinge which lists her as Jonas Ängberg's daughter, but I could not find her birth record.  I think she may not be Jonas's daughter.  I did find the next daughter named Anna Brita's birth 25 Apr 1812 in Tysslinge which lists her parents as Jonas Engberg and Kierstin Pehrsdr.  I need to determine where Jonas and his wife came from and find their marriage record to determine if this is Kierstin's 2nd marriage.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Kronoberg Algutsboda Household Examination Roll A1:16 1855-1862 pg 114 GID:2.4.34100.  Entry for Anna Maria Petersdr b. 1833, left in 1856 but I can't make out where she went to.  Also, her brother, Carl Johan Petersson listed 3 entries above her left in, I believe, 1858 for D?  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

OK, I know this is an old post, but since I am also researching Peter Magnus Isaksson and his son Carl Johan Gräns I thought I would post my question here.  I've been told a story that Peter Magnus Isaksson was a colorful and outspoken man and very strong.  The story goes he was given a piece of land in Bodaskog and built Ekekullen by himself with only an ax and saw, carrying big trees and logs by himself.  According the the Household Examination Rolls (A1:14 Kronoberg Hovmantorp Household Examination 1861-1865 GID:229.49.30300), Peter Magnus left Lessebo in 1862 for Bodaskog (Ekekullen) which would make him about 56 years old when he built Ekekullen.  After his death in 1870 his son Carl Johan stayed at Ekekullen until his death in 1923.  Apparently Peter Magnus was also known as Päel Udde.  Does anyone know if there are any local histories from this area that might contain these stories?  And if so, how do I access them?

Arne and Bo,  thank you so much for the info.  Hopefully I can track them in Algutsboda.

I believe Axelina used the name Grant when she came to the U.S.  Would her brothers/sisters also use that name or would they use Karlson or would it just be their choice?

Also, if Karl Johan was a soldier, is there information on his military career somewhere?  Where do you look for that?  This is all new to me so please excuse what may seem obvious.

I need some translation help for the parents of Axelina Gustafa, born 22 April 1868, GID:100007.50.64800 Kronoberg_SCB Kronoberg:280 Births, Marriages, Deaths 1868-1868.  It appears that her father is a soldier, but I need to determine where to look for them in the Household Examinations.  Any help is appreciated!  Thank you.

OK, well this isn't working so well.  I did find Sofia moving in, GID:2732.296.60100, Stockholm, Hedvig Eleonora BIB:4 Moving In 1881-1888.  There is a reference after her name, 943, I'm assuming this is the page she came from (it was actually 493 in Örebro Nikolai).

I also found Sofia moving out, GID:2732.300.25000 Stockholm, Hedvig Eleonora BIC:2 Moving Out 1877-1884.  There is the same number notation after her name, #467, but how do I find out where this 467 is?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks!!

Örebro Nickolai AI:29E Household Examination pg 493 (line 11), Sofia Ängberg b. 15 Feb 1862 left for Stockholm 21 Jun 1882.  I can't make out what is written underneath Stockholm to try and locate her there.  Can anyone help?  Thank you in advance for any direction provided.

Thanks for the info, I knew Arvid came to the U.S. but I didn't know when.  Thanks again for all your help!

Arne, thank you for the info.  Yes that is her, her son born August Hjalmer went to Arbetshuset in 1871.  Two of her children went there in 1874 and one in 1875, one of her sons died in 1874 and apparently her youngest, Arvid stayed with her.  I tracked her until 1900 on the household examinations and apparently she got younger as she got older!  Her age on the birth records of her two youngest is approx. 5 yrs younger that what she really is, and about 1885 her birth year changed to 1847, about 10 yrs younger than she really is.  As far as the day and month of her birth on her death record, I know it is wrong.  Her birth record shows she was born 1 Jun 1837 in Tysslinge.  Her birth day and month is correct on the household examinations through 1900.  I can only assume whoever gave the info on her death didn't really know her birth date.

Although she never married, she had six children (that I found so far).  Not one of the birth records names a father, which makes any further research on their paternal lines pretty much done.  I don't know how all this affected her socially, but I'd like to get more information on the Arbetshuset and illegitimacy during this time period.

Her son Carl Frederik Knut used the name Engberg when he came to U.S.

Once again, thanks for the info, it was very helpful, I appreciate it!

I'm looking for help with the translation of the notation for Johanna Sofia Ångberg at the top of the page.  I know her children went to Arbetshuset in 1871, 1874 and the last one in 1875 apparently when she left Arbetare Bod. I found all the children but where did Johanna go in 1875?  I can't find her anywhere in 1875.  I found her in GID 2316.23.32300, GID 2316.58.19800 and GID 2316.58.19900 with what appears to be similar notations, none of which I can make out. I also need to determine if these last 3 GID's are for the sjukhuset or the fattighuset.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
