I would like some help with hard to read names.. The 2 documents of interest were found
on ArkivDigital. Place of interest is Ore, Kopparberg.
1. AID: v131356.b43.s39 The household of interest is No. 32. The person of interest to me is Matts b. 1725 Aug 26. I can't read who his parents are?
2. I believe Matts birth was found at AID: v131386.b85.s78 entry #27. Once again the parents names are difficult for me to figure out.

It is regarding entry # 551 for Anton Conrad Kristian WELL There are some notations regarding Norway under his fathers name as well as in the last column which I don't understand.

I am following a gentleman who was living in Kalmar, but moved on. I can not read where he moved to. Hoping someone can solve my problem. The household examination was found on Arkivdigital AID: v174910.b119.s109
on line 13. Gentleman of interest is Fredrik Peter Persson.
Also is the notation in the column next to where he moved states (Ni 373 1/1889) Is this to do with military service ??

ArkivDigial AID: 129827.b103 entry # 278 states that Karl Gust. Bjurman leaves from Falu Christine on Nov. 5, 1888 for 40-17 Stockholm. How can I find him in Stockholm to follow him further.
I know he leaves for North American in 1890's but may be using the surname Osterman by then, as that is what he uses in America.

I have been following the household records on ArkivDigital for a family I'm researching but have run into a problem when they are moving out of a parish and I can't find them after that. The digitalized record is: Smedstorp Al:9 (1851-1855) image 184 / page 181 The family is the 1st on the page with father Pehr Hansfon and mother Elna Jönsdotter. It looks like the parents and at least a couple of the children left the parish in 1854. Could someone possibly assist me so I can continue to follow this family. Thank you so much.

I am looking for a record for Anders Gabrielsson returning from American. I have found him living with his family on ArkivDigital household record:

Anders left for North American in 1885 and after earning money to bring 3 of his children to American, he is returning to live out the rest of his life with his wife and 2 spinster daughters in Ågård. Thank you. She had come from page 410 in 1909.

Thank you both so much. Now it makes a bit of sense as my grandma Emelie in most records states she was born in Kinnared. I believe she was born at her grandparents home at Nädhult N:o 3 in Kinnared, baptized there, then just over a month later the family moves from Örbäck to Snapparp, Torup. She may never have actually lived in Örbäck herself.
Can you tell me anything about the poorhouse in Kinnared the family lived in, in 1890. Would the poorhouses be a large institute as they were in England, and perhaps be run by the church??
Perhaps I could post a note on the Kinnared parish discussion.

I am trying to find the name of farm or location of a birth for a gentleman I am researching.
I found him on Arkiv Digital - Näsinge A1:5 (1875-1885) Bild 67 / sid 123. He if the 1st person listed, Hilmer Alexandersson born Oct 27, 1850.
It looks like he was born in Qville. Before I can look for his birth, I need to know what this farm name this is and where it is located.

Thank you ever so much for the look up. I do have a subscription to Arkiv Digital and use it a lot in my research. But I was having trouble with this gentleman, and not reading Swedish doesn't help. I presume his surname was changed to Vikander when he joined the military, as many were. But do you have any clues as to why Vikander was chosen? A farm name, or military expression perhaps? I know some of his siblings took the same name when they arrived in Canada. Thanks once again.. Your help is most appreciated.

Name: Johan Peter Andersson b: Dec. 10, 1847 in Veddige, Halland. He later took the surname Wikander or Vikander which may help in your search.

I am trying to trace an ancestor from 1879 in Ås, Halland until she immigrates to N. American in 1890. Her name is Brita Lena Andersdotter, born August 27, 1858 in Veddige, Halland.
The last household exam I have found her on was in Ås A1:7 (1870-1881) Bild 218/sid 227 on line 17. It states she left here Oct. 31, 1879.
I next went to the moving out record Ås B:2 (1875-1894) Bild 14 entry 25.
It states she is going to Wisby (Visby) but I can not find a Wisby parish to look for the next place of residence.
Could someone please give some advice as to where I would find this record.

I am a bit puzzled as to the relationship of a gentleman shown on a birth document as it is not the previously known father of the child.
It is entry #69 for a Karl Gustof Walderman from Torsås C1:11 (1876-1894) Bild 288 (AID:v41154.b288, NAD: SE/VALA/00385)
Household examination shows she was married to a different gentleman in 1885 and is still living with him.
Family starts on line #14 from Torsås Alla:4 (1898-1907) Bild 36/sid 890
Also is the source information given for the second record enough for you to find the record easily, or should I always state more as in the first record?

The following great grandmother immigrated to America in 1891 as a widow with her daughter and family. I have been unable to find a death record for her in America and wondered if she may have returned to Sweden and died there. Her husband, Pers Hansson died Nov. 15, 1887 and was living at Lilla Råby, near Lund. If she returned it would have been to the Lund area probably.
Her name was Bengta Hansdotter born Aug 3, 1814 in Fjelie, Lund

I am visiting Lund area from Canada in a couple weeks and hope to find a bit of information before arriving.
My great grandfather immigrated to the North America in about 1888. The family was living at #2 Lilla Råby at that time. I rather doubt that there is any remains of that settlement left today as it would have been just outside the city of Lund at that time and has probably been overtaken by the city by now.
In a history of the family that was written in American, it states that he was a brewmaster from Lund before immigrating. I would like to know if he might possibly have taken an apprenticeship for this trade, or if there would be records to prove this?
Did they grow hops to brew beer in the Lund area, or would it have been a different type of brew? Any insight you can give would be appreciated. Eileen

From looking at maps, it's very possible that there is no longer a farm there. I would like to visit the church of Sankt Peters kloster if it still stands. My grandfather's name was Charles Gustav (Larsson) born May 21, 1880 Sankt Peters Kloster, Lund. They family was living at Lilla Råby No.2 at the time. I have found the family in records using Genline. (1878-1883 Household exam. 1300.5;A1:14; image 168/0. Living at Lilla Råby No.2 L.) His parents were Lars Jonasson and Cecilia Persdotter. The whole family immigrated to American between 1888 ad 1891. I found an article on the internet talking about Lund City expanding to include part of Lilla Råby http://www.concordia.se/infolund_en.asp#History Scroll down to The city expands and the welfare is increased The old and the poor were favoured; in 1907 they could leave their home on Själbodgatan and move in to the newly built Mårtenslund. Lund incorporates land outside of the city walls. In 1913 the city expands to the south by including a part of Lilla Råby. The city expands to the west as the parish of S:t Peter´s monastery is incorporated in 1914; Stora Råby and Torn in 1952; Södra Sandby ,Dalby, Veberöd and Genarp in 1974. New parts of the city is created; Klostergården in 1963; Norra Fäladen in 1967; Linero in 1969; Norra Nöbbelöv in 1973; Gunnesbo in 1980 and Värpinge in the 1990ies. Although I not only would like to visit the home where Charles was possibly born, I am particularly interested in finding living descendance of his aunts and uncles who stayed in Sweden. My grandfather was born at Lilla Råby #2 L, in Sankt Peters Kloster parish, Lund in 1888. I found this information on genline records. The family left for America in 1891. In about 1913 the city of Lund grew to the south to take in Lilla Råby. I will be visiting Lund next spring and would like to visit the site where they lived if it still stands. How would I find the old address, Lilla Råby #2 L, in today's city directory? Hopefully the home still stands, but if not I would still like to look around the area. Thank you. Eileen

Oh my goodness. I wonder what that was all about. I know he came to Canada with what I presume was a wife, and 2 little girls. Very interesting.
His wife was named Anne (Anna) Christina Andersdotter b: 1845 Dec. 24 in Sweden.
Daughters names in Canada: Louise Anita b. Jun 29, 1881 Sweden and Adelina (Lena) b. May 28, 1883 in Sweden.
According to the 1901 census in Canada, they all came to Canada in 1883, which is just after the last daughter was born.
Quite a mystery. Any ideas?

Line 1 - Jacobsson, Johan Alfred b: 1856 7/7 Malexander - what I would like to know is what is the notation at the end of the line regarding where he left for in 1886.
Also, there is no notation regarding him being married. If he is working on this farm as a labourer, but his wife is not with him at the time, shouldn't it still state that he is a married man?
I have not been able to find his immigration record to American yet. Obviously still in Sweden in 1886, but in Canada by 1901 census there.

I wondered if a look-up could be done for a Martin Swanson (Svenson) born Oct. 1856. He supposedly emigrated to N. America with his family in 1887. All this information came from American census records after arriving. I thought if a Martin Svenson could be found in the 1880 census, probably unmarried, that matches the birth information, I would then use Genline to look in the _Scb records for any counties where a match is found, to look for his children's births. Does that seem possible?
As for emigration records: He left with wife Christine Nelson b. 1861, son Enoch b.1881, daughter Hulda b. 1883, daughter Elvera b. 1887. If I could just find a county they came from, I'm sure I could do something from there.

The family I am researching used the name Melin when they arrived in N. America. Could you tell me what the translation is above the 1st. name on this household exam. It almost looks like the word Melin is there. Perhaps it was a name change before leaving Sweden? Then at the far side of the page it looks like the family left for America in 1884? Brita Andersson, on my original query, may have died after 1920 while the children were quit young. (her married name would have been Helsing also)
Another daughter, I have just confirmed the name of was, Selma Valborg Helsing born June 26, 1918. She may also fall into this time frame.

and also her sister __?__ Valborg born June 26, 1918 on the same film, image 23100.
The 1st baby __?__ Margreta died Apr. 21, 1917, same place, 159.60; SCB; 1898-1920; Deaths; image 13900 (page 34) if a second look at the name helps.
I hope I have entered the source information correctly. If not, please let me know how I can do it better.
I presume Näset is the name of a farm or small community where they lived? And what is the father's occupation?

The last household examination I found Carl Gustof Larsson (born 1888 May 21) on was:

living at Lilla Råby #2 L. I presume #2 L would be the home address.
Are there old history books, which might give more detail as to where it was located in Lilla Råby, to compare to today's location? Wouldn't it be unbelievable if one of the 2 old homes standing turned out to be the home he was born at.

I am trying to find out if any sign of a small community remains in the Lund area. My grandfather was born in Lilla Råby which was very near to the city Lund. An article I found on the internet about the history of Lund, states that the in 1913 the city expands to the south to including a part of Lilla Råby. I see on modern maps that Stora Råby still exists, but I presume it is not the same community. I am trying to find out exactly where Lilla Råby existed as I wish to travel to Sweden and visit the area. Thank you.

Hi Harriet, It is so difficult when dealing with name changes once these people immigrated to N. America. According Canadian records on John Albert Jackson mentioned above, his father was John Jackson. The John given name could be representive of the farmers name Jonas you found, but Jonas's last name was Pehrsson not Jackson. However, in American records the father's surname back in Sweden is often given as the same as the son who immigrated which in this case was Jackson. (Have I confused you yet?)
And the Canadian information on the mother's name for John Albert Jackson was given as Christina Lenburn? The Christina works for your Eva Christina Johansdotter, but the Lenburn surname is questionable at this end yet. So it is possible you are on the right line.
The couple mentioned in the previous message were married in Sweden before immigrating. They would have been married about 1880. We will keep plugging away. The brick wall will come tumbling down sooner or later.

Lots of vital records, some military and immigration records. Also several connections around N.America. I guess you have no idea if they changed their surnames or not. Message from Chris for the parents states: Torups kyrkogård, kv. 6, nr. 243244 (kista) I presume this could be burial plot information, but I don't read Swedish. It is different #'s then daughters.
Also reply from Judy states Sabina was an unmarried women. Is there an entry for sister, Alma Elisabeth, which might state if she ever married?

My grandmother was born Emelie Christina Andreasdotter Jan 23, 1877 in Abild, Halland
After she and her 2 brothers immigrated to America, they used the surname Applestam or sometimes Appelstam. I have often wondered where they choice that name from. Perhaps one of the brothers was in the military in Sweden ?? The two brothers were:
Gustaf Alfrid Andersson b: Apr 29, 1871 in Abild, Halland
Carl August Andersson b: Jan 11, 1881 in Torup, Halland
Does anyone have any ideas on this name change??

I am wondering if it is difficult to find obituaries in newspapers in smaller communities in Sweden. Was it a common practice to write a death notice in a newspaper? Once I find the exact dates, which will be in the 1920-1960 time frame, I will want to checkout the newspaper for the community of Torup, Halland.
If any one can tell me what newspaper would cover that parish and where I would find it, I would be most grateful.
Also is there a newspaper covering this parish at the present time, should I want to send a query to it?

Looking for the death information for the following ancestors. As far as I know they are all buried in the Torup Church cemetery, Torup, Halland and lived very close by:
Husband: Anders Gabrielsson b: Dec 2, 1845 Abild, Halland
Wife: Ida Andreasdotter b: Dec 31, 1846 Kinnared, Halland
daughter: Anna Elizabeth b: Oct 12, 1882 Torup, Halland (possibly never married)
daughter: Sabina Otelia b: Oct 27, 1885 Torup, Halland (possibly never married)
- other children immigrated to America and remained there.
Family headstone in Torup Church cemetery reads: “Anders Gabrielsson family of Ågård (no other names or dates)
