Hello Audrey!
Just ran across your posting, and I found your great uncle's family in Kristdala parish. They appear in the parish census for 1887-93 on page 367 (Genline ref. 90.2.20400) under Malbriana, Malghult No.1, Kristdala. The family is listed as follows:
Lars Peter Karlsson b.Sept.7, 1845 Döderhult
(wife) Kristina Sofia Johansdr. b.7/3/45 Kristd.
s. Albin Julius Gotfrid b.7/3/75 Döderhult
s. Emil Martin Sällfrid b.7/26/81 Döderhult
d. Selma Ottilia Sofia b.1/8/85 Kristdala
In 1890 they moved to Malghult No.2, and you can find them on page 404 (Genline Ref. 90.2.24100) of the parish census for 1887-93. There is no parish census after 1893, so I could not dtermine the family's whereabouts after that date.

I am looking for the patrimonial name, birthplace and birthdate of a soldier from soldattorp No. 72 at Fållen, Södra Vi parish, who was quartered there from about 1764 until about 1790. Dear friends:

One more fact I failed to mention.
Jan and Catharina were married 22 April 1770 in Gåsborn parish. Since most marriages took place in the bride's home church, I presumed that it was the parish of her birth--but perhaps not.

Thanks. Yes I am sure of the year since it appears in the husf. consistently, but the parish of birth is never indicated. Perhaps she was born in a neighboring parish? Do you know which parishes would be the most likely candidates that I should check?
Her husband Jan Jönsson was born 30 April 1749 in Stjärnberget, Rämmen parish. Catharina died 10 January 1798 in that same village, and Jan died there 13 February 1785. Their son Anders Jansson born there 21 March 1780 is my ancestor.
I sincerely appreciate that you took the time to look at the page I could not read. The handwriting is one of the most difficult I have encountered.

I was looking for Catharina Andersdotter, born 1740 in Gåsborn parish. I saw there were TWO named Catharina, both appearing on GIF 490.32.68800.
Would someone be willing to look at this page and give me the names on the parents and village of birth? I hope one of them has a father named Anders. I would be very thankful.

I need help to read an old Swedish record in the churchbooks on Genline (Reference 972.11.90800).
I am looking for the birthdate and birthplace for Sven Månsson, born in 1748 in Almesåkra parish. The only Sven born that year is the fifth (Number 5) birth on 28 March, and christened 4 April 1848.
I cannot read the names of the parents or the witnesses. I appears that the birthplace is Älgas ?? Could someone help? It would be very much appreciated.

Hello friends!
I would appreciate some help to read an old record in Genline. The name is Britta Maja Andersdotter (född 15 July 1819) on page 11 of the 1834-45 Husf. for Kungsbacken, Undenäs parish, Skaraborgs län, (ref: 1596.22.98300).
Her name appears on the 10th line from the top of the page.
I am unable to read the entry at the end of the line showing where she moved in 1839. There are two names there but I think the one beginning with H is the entry for 1839.

I am looking for Olof Olsson, who left Brattforshyttan, Brattfors parish, 4 February 1849 for Nyed parish. I cannot find him in the immigration records for Nyed in Genline, and there are over 1100 pages in the parish census records for that period.
Does anyone have a recommendation on how to find Olof Olsson (f. 16 December 1831 in Brattfors) in Nyed?

In Genline Ref: 163.3.69200 (Husf.1811-16) it shows the family of Lars Jönsson and Catharina Larsdotter moving March 14, 1814 from Skäfshult to Gallebo Hvena. I cannot find them under Gallebo (except for son Jonas Larsson f.30 October 1791), and I cannot find a place named Hvena or Kvena(?).
Could someone help me pick up the family's location after 1814? I would be very appreciative.

There are more than ten people in the 1880 U.S. census with this name, and my hope is that a destination state is noted in the record for Johan Peter in 1871.

One interesting bit of information you provided answers a family mystery about why Maria Charlotta could not marry my great-grandfather Ludvig Andersson in Sweden (they waited until they arrived in America). The reason you revealed is that her father was a farmhand living in the poorhouse (fattigstugan), whereas Ludvig's family were well-off land-owners in Tived, Orebro. Apparently Ludvig's parents thought this was a bad match! Genealogy can be fun!

I am trying to find what happened to Herman Pehrsson, born 15 September 1856, in Nolåsen Sörgården, Fredsberg parish, Skaraborgs län. His parents, Pehr Pettersson and Stina Johannesdotter, his sister Maria Charlotta and brother Pehr Johan, left for North America in the early 1880's from Fredsberg. I could not find him on Genline after the age of 16.
Does someone have the emigration record for Fredsberg to see if he also emigrated to N. America with the family??

I have two ancestors who are shown as dying in Udden, Färnebo parish, Värmlands län, in 1690 and 1704. In the husförhors from 1718 on, there is no village or farm with this name. Am I missing something?

I would appreciate it if someone could verify some information I have about an ancestor. His name is Per Håkansson, f.13 March 1667 vid Nordmark, Färnebo parish, d.10 May 1734 in Saxån, Färnebo. He married Christin Persdotter, f.4 December 1672 in Saxån, d.12 May 1765 in Skältjärns, Färnebo.
My question is, are the following persons the correct parents of Per Hakansson? Håkan Andersson, f.1620 Farnebo, d.February 1704 Udden, Farnebo; and Dordi Ersdotter, F.1629 Farnebo, d.June 1690 Udden, Farnebo parish.

I am trying to find a family in Älgaräs parish in 1848. They left Skallebolet, Undenäs parish that year, as shown on Genline 1596.25.10600 (first entry, page 1 of Husf. 1845-56). Since there are no immigation records for Älgaräs, I do not know where to begin to look. Their names are Johannes Andersson (6 Dec 1810), his wife Brita Maja Andersdotter (13 Feb 1819), and daughter Maja Cajsa (9 March 1846). I am trying to follow Maja Cajsa to see if she married and had a family.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I also found the reference to Pär Svensson with the 1719 21/10 date in the husf. However, there is not a Pär born on that date in the birthbook. I did find the Pär born 1719 20/11 to soldier Sven Fogelberg.
Do you think the second Pär is the correct one, because I also have his mother Britta dying 1739 16/5?

I am doing some research on my wife's family. I have a problem interpreting page 55 in the Husförhörslängd (1855-1861) for Skallafunghult, Kråkshult parish. The first entry on the page is Enk.Johanna Petersdotter, born 3 October 1819. I am unable to determine in what parish she was born. It looks like a C under Ort., and a C p.83 under Flyttningar. Could someone interpret what parish this might be? I would appreciate it very much.

Does someone know the birthdate of Lars Svensson from Torpa parish? He would have been born about 1710-1720. He married Annika (Anna) Göransdotter 3 October 1742 in Torpa. Annika was born 28 February 1714 at Lillekullatorpet, Torpa parish.
Their son Göran Larsson Slogren was born 20 January 1754 in Sunnanå, Torpa parish. Were there other children also?

Yes, I made a mistake. I meant to say that Per Håkansson died 10 May 1734 (or as you say, was buried on that date), not 1667.
I think that perhaps the Per born 1664 and 1672 were not the correct Per, because it was too far from the approximate birth date as calculated from the death date.
Since there was no Husforhörslängd in 1667, I guess we'll never know if the Per born in March 1667 in Nordmarks gruvor, son of Håkan Hinriksson the shoemaker, was the correct Per.

I do not think it is the Per born 1664 or 1672. That is perhaps too far off of the approximate birth year of 1668 (from the death record). Could someone help me find my ancestors in Kisa parish?
Page 279 of the husförhörslängd for Södra Vi parish in Kalmar län, shows that my ancestors Jön Larsson and his wife Kierstin Svensdotter (both born in Kisa in 1728, and married there in 1754), left Kisa parish for Södra Vi in 1784. They had a son Lars born in 1760 in Kisa, who is my FFMFF.
I had been looking in Kila parish, but someone told me the handwriting could be Kisa in Östergötlands län.
I do not know what village they were from. I would like to know if I have the correct parish. If so, I can get the churchbooks and do additional research.

I would appreciate some assistance. I am looking for information on Jön Larsson, born 1728 in Kila parish, who moved with his family to Näfstad, Södra Vi in 1782.
The Husförhörslängd for Södra Vi(1788-1816, page 279) gives his birthplace as Kila in 1728. But there are three Kilas--one in Värmland, one in Södermanland, and one in Västmanland.
Could anyone tell me which Kila I should be researching to find him?? Which is the closest to Södra Vi?

I am seeking the parents and siblings of Halsten (or Haeken) Hellgren, born in 1720 in Grava socken, Värmlands län.
Halsten was a trumslagare (drummer) and non-commissioned officer with the Närke-Värmlands regimente. He enlisted in the army November 18, 1737, and retired in 1777. The family lived at Åtorp, Grava parish, Värmlands län, before they moved to Norra Ölmhult, Väse parish, in 1759. His wife and four children moved alone because he was away at the Seven Years' War from 1756-63. Halsten returned to Väse parish after the war in 1763. In 1768 the family moved to Göranstorp, Väse parish.

I am searching for the parents and siblings of August Vilhelm Andersson, born 4 November 1862 in Gränna parish (I an seeking dates and places of birth). I believe his parents were Anders Anderson and Lovisa, and that they lived their entire lives in this parish. August Vilhelm emigrated to the U.S. in 1882, and brother Johan A. at an earlier date (I believe Johan A. was born in 1854). I am told that there were 6 sons and two daughters in the family.
Upon arriving in America, both brothers changed their surname to Elander, which may or may not have been part of their family name in Sweden.

My name is Brian Almquist and I am related to the Lundgren family. Emil Birath-Lundgren's first wife, Ida Maria Johnson (Johannesson in Sweden) was a sister to my great-grandfather, Carl Oskar Johannesson. Unlike his brothers and sisters, Carl changed his name to Almquist, whereas all the others became Johnson.
Emil and Ida Maria (she used the name Anna Maria) had four children: Robert 1884, Carl 1887, Edwin 1888, and Henning 1890. Ida Maria died in childbirth in 1890, and Emil married Matilda Swenson about 1893 or 1894. They had Mamie 1895, Martin 1898, Luther 1902, and Florence 1905.
Emil was born in 1847 in Grevback parish, Vastergotlands lan, where his father Jakob Birath was a gardener. He emigrated at the age of 23 and came to the Austin area in 1870. For the first 10 years he worked as a farmhand in Lampasas County as a farmhand, and as a railroad worker. In 1880 he bought land in Kimbro. He soon sold the Kimbro land and went to Ore City, Colorado, where he worked in the silver mines for 3 years, bringing back a considerable fortune, which he invested in a 700 acre farm at Kimbro. Matilda was born in Varnamo parish, Jonkopings lan, in 1862. I have done some genealogy work on the Birath family in Sweden, if you are interested.

I'm enjoying this dialog. It's always fun to find someone who is interested in something you find you have in common.
The information about Haekken Hellgren being born in 1720 is shown in the Husförhörslängd for Väse parish, Norra Ömhult, for 1767-1770. It also shows the birth date of his wife Stina Mattsdotter (Mathesdotter?) as 1718. However, it does not show what parish they were born in. I made that assumption, which is often not a good idea.
As far as were the family went after 1774, I don't know. I do know that his son Hindrik moved to Svantjärnshagen, Kroppa parish. But whether his parents also moved there is not known.
Please let me know if yyou can unravel this. Also, if you can read the names of Hinrik's siblings (I can't), I would be very grateful.

You are right about the name looking more like Halsten Hellgren (one t) on the Husförhörslängd for Väse socken, Norra Olmhult, for 1767-1770. Hindrik is the ninth entry on the record (second word), and nearly illegible.
However, in the birth records for July 1765 (p.347) it still looks like Haekken Hellgren.
My rationale for thinking it is more likely the birth record spelling, is that his offspring used Håkansson and Håkansdotter'. I have found that ae often becomes å in later Swedish records, just as je becomes ä (e.g. Kjettefallet becomes Kättefallet).
On the other hand, the writing is so bad your rationale is also valid.
I tried to find Haekken's (or Hallsten's) birth record in 1720 in Väse socken, but the record is in narrative fashion, and once again the handwriting is as bad or worse, and I don't read Swedish either, so I gave up the search.
If you have more luck than I did, I'd appreciate your input.

I just ran across this thread looking for other family connections in Värmlands län.
I have an ancestor named Haekken Hellgren, born 1720 in Väse parish. On February 1, 1798 he married Stina Mattsdotter, born 1718 also in Väse parish.
Their youngest son Hindrik Håkansson was born July 28, 1765 in Norra Olmhult, Väse parish. He married Cajsa Jönsdotter. Hindrik is also my ancestor. I do have a copy of his birth record.
Haekken Hellgren and Stina Mattsdotter also had three other children, but the handwriting in the parish census is simply awful! The best I could decipher the writing seems to indicate a Greta born 1747, Magnus born 1754, and Maja born 1756.
I would like to know more about Haekken Hellgren, but the Lutheran pastor who kept the records for Väse parish has the worst writing style I have run across in all my research of parish records!

I see from my records that Maria Olafsdotter died 8 November 1829 at Bastaremåla. About 1830, Clas Peter Glans married Gunild Olofsdotter born 13 August 1804 at Toget, Urshult socken. They had son Carl Johan 1831, and daughter Maria 1836, both at Bastaremåla. Is it possible that the Husförhörslängd for about 1832-40 would indicate where Clas Peter was born? My great-great grandfather was Carl Johan, born 3 January, 1831 in Bastaremåla. Clas Peter has been very difficult to find. Your help would be very much appreciated.

I have found the information I was seeking in the church records for Tiveds parish through the FHL records on microfilm. Anders Gustaf's parents were Anders Ericsson b.14 Dec 1788 at Kjettefallet, Undenas parish; and Clara Jansdotter b.14 Sep 1795 at Klysna, Lerback parish. Anders Ericsson's parents were Eric Jonsson b. 14 Feb 1754 at Kjettefallet, and Stina Andersdotter b.4 Apr 1760 at Tived, Undenas parish. That is as far back as the parish census records go, except for birth records which begin in 1689.

My name is Brian Johannesson-Almquist and I am looking for information on my great-grandmother, Maria Christina Larsdotter, born 17 June 1855 in Vimmerby, Kalmar lan, who emigrated to North America in 1872. I do not know which parish she was from, but I know there are about 10 parishes in Vimmerby township. My cousin Goran Johansson in Malmback tells me that one person responded that there was no one by that name born in Vimmerby parish. Another person responded that there was a Maria Larsdotter-Mack who emigrated in 1872, but was born 25 September 1849.
