Leanne Wennerbom

Hi all,

I am researching my husband family, and am looking for any information on

(>) 1 (John Justus WENNERBOM) born in 1789? 1799? -02-08 Odensåker, Västra Götaland.
I believe John's parents were Jonas Elofsson WENNERBOM b 1765 17-03 and Anna Charlotta THOR SEEN. Jonas the son of Elof Wennerbom and Maria Christina Ullström

John married Eleanor Amelia Catherine MELLIN in 1832

John and Eleanor had a son, Charles Augustus, who migrated to Australia in 1851

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
lea

Leanne,

Johan Justus was born 1799-05-02, and baptized 1799-05-03 in Odensåker. His father was a Quartermaster in 'Lilla Rör'. His parents were, as you write, Jonas Wennerbom and Anna Thorsseen.

Jonas was born in 'Grava, Värmland' where his father, Elof Wennerbom, was a curate at the time of Jonas´birth

Regards
Leif

Leanne!
John Justus was born May 2 1799 as you can see from ArkivDigital Screen dump.

However in the AI:3 1809-1812 household record John/Jan is noted as Fost. Son - foster-son to Claus Thorsen and Ullericka Lidström.

I did look in the death-records and found Johns parents in the 1800 records:

From what I can see Johns both parents drunknade/drowned and there is also a note about upplöst jonelag which should be a divorce.... So quite a sad story ...

Regards

Leanne!

The following link will give you a lot of information, in Swedish, about the Thorséen family.

I had translated all relevant information, but spoiled it when creating the link! I might redo it later....

Leif

Thank you very much Leif and Olle;

I appreciate your swift response and I have amended my dates. Please can you tell me what a Quarter Master is ... I have no idea. Elof being a curator have read before, that is with the Clergy yes?

It is sad story of John's parents both drowning ... and the divorce I had not known before. So thank you both very much for your help.

Thank you for the link Leif ... you did well ..
Kindest Regards
Leanne

Leanne,

I am not an expert on military ranks, but I think it was a type of a Non-Commissioned Officer.

Yes, it was with the Clergy.

Leif

Leanne,
a second try! (I have made it easy for myself and just omitted the dots over the O in Ohn, etc.)

Anna Charlotta Thorsséen, born 1770-01-27 in Ohn, Odensakers parish (some 20 km south of the town Lidkoping on the southern shore of the lake Vanern), baptized 28/1,† 1800-04-07 in Lilla Ror (drowned), Odensakers parish, buried 3/5. Married 1798-02-12 in Odensakers with the quartermaster Jonas Wennerbom, born 1765 in Grava parish, † 1800-04-07 in Lilla Ror, Odensaker (drowned), buried 5/5.

Anna Charlotta was a daughter of Jonas Justus Thorsséen, born in 1723 in Ohn, baptized 28/4; Mayor; † there 1780-08-06, buried 8/9. Married to Anna Ebba von Werdenhoff, born in 1729 in Varings parish, † 1800 in Ohn, Odensaker, daughter of Captain Claes Johan von Werdenhoff and Charlotta Polus.

Jonas Justus Thorsséen was a son of Lechard Hemmingsson Thorsén, (son of Hemming Nilsson and Catharina Lechardsotter), born in 1683 on the island Torso in lake Vanern; LLM(?) in Vadsbo district; † 1732 in Ohn, buried 21/1. Married to Ingeborg Margareta Aurell, born in 1684 i Bjorsaters parish (Skaraborg), † 1759-11-23 in Ohn, buried 3/12, daughter of LLM(?)Jonas Justus Aurell and Barbro Merling (daughter of a Councillor in Stockholm Jonas Hansson Merling and N.N).

The family originally comes from the island Torso in lake Vanern, after which they derived their family name. Even the first name Lechard is believed to be originated on Torso. Also within another family on Torso, the Lomans, the first name Lechard appears (Lechard Andersson Loman, born in 1760 on Torso, † there in 1848). They might have a common origin. From the Thorsén family the name Lechard was inherited for several generations within the families Robach, Lilja, Liljeblad and Norberg, all related by marriage to the Thorséen family.

Regards
Leif

Sometimes the upplöst hjonelag or similar remark had nothing to do with divorce, instead it showed that the person was married, and that marriage was now dissolved by this death.

This seems to be the case in this death book in this parish, I checked the deaths 1800, and there were far too many upplöst hjonelag for them to be cases of divorced people. GID 1051.31.77400, [Skaraborg] Odensåker, C.3, Marriages,Deaths, 1786-1838, page 199, Image 107.

Leif that is great, thank you so much for your time and effort in doing that for me...I have added the information into my tree. I really appreciate your help...I am a little lost researching in Sweden, it is hard for me to find what I need at the moment. I am sure I will get used to it in time....maybe

Bo,

Thank you for your help too, that makes a lot of sense if there were too many upplöst hjonelag listed. I will make notes of this. I am use to researching in Australia and the UK, not so much with anything Swedish..so I am a novice here.

Many thanks to you both
Regards
Leanne

Leanne,
A Quarter Master is an officer, responsible for food and housing.

Thank you Gunnar, so now I will need to see if I can find any records for him in his service. Being an officer should be better to find data on him perhaps.

Leanne,
Military documents are kept at the Krigsarkivet in Stockholm. Very little is digitized, and nothing is in any language but Swedish. There are, however, some beginnings or tries to make someting in internet for some parts of Sweden. As Odensåker is situated between Mariestad and Skövde, Jonas Wennerbom was in one of the Västgöta regiments (there were at least three of them, both infantry and cavalry), and I don't know much about that part of Sweden, I'm afraid. I think You had better ask Krigsarkivet.
