I am researching my great-grandfather, August Lundberg, who came from Stockholm in 1886.  He was born in 1866.  His first wife was Lotten.  Is he in anyone's family tree?  Thanks.

By the way, August birthdate was May 25th.  This is most surely mine!  I didn't know he had sisters that came to America.  This is exciting!

Söder (the south part) of Stockholm belong to the two parishes Katarina and Maria Magdalena. They lived in the following streets (=gata=g)Stora Skinnarviksg 20/Torkel Knutssons g 20, Sankt Paulsg 28, Horntullsg 5,7 and Bellmansg 24, it seems that most of these streets nowadays belong to Maria Magdalena parish (some streets do not exist any more and some also belong to Högalid parish).

Their birth parishes are Lövånger (the municipality of Skellefteå, county of Västerbotten) and Skellefteå landsförsamling (rural parish).

Are you still there?  I have contacted a genealogist in Västerbotten and he has sent me a history of this family going back to the 1600s.  He also tells me the family left Lövånger in 1867 for Huddinge, Stockholm.  So your information has been very valuable.

Can you tell me what year the CD is for?  In other words, is the information accurate as of a certain date?  I find a Carl Johan Lundberg emmigrating from Stockholm in 1883 at the age of 19 on the immigrant CD.  So I'm wondering at what point he was in prison, if at all.

Also, who publishes the CD you referenced?  Thanks.

Karl Johan Lundberg, born Jan 17, 1864 in Lövånger, carpenter. In from Hall, Gotland, 1882 to Bellmansgatan 24, but this must be wrong, because Hall prison is in Södertälje not far from Stockholm. (There is also a parish called Hall on the island of Gothland) 1883 he moves to Tantoroten (other part of Stockholm). 1883 he moves in from Mariaroten to Stora Skinnarviksgatan 20. 3/3 1885 he is noted in the appendix (=bilagan), i e they do not know his whereabouts. 1897 he is still among the missing persons.

1880-1882 there is this note: sonen Carl Johan på Hall which means the son Carl Johan at Hall.

Perhaps you can also check the clergical records for the parish of Huddinge (before 1878).

The CD: Söder i våra hjärtan, contains people and places in the southern part of Stockholm (parishes Katarina and Maria Magdalena) between 1870 and 1930. The CD is produced by Stockholm City Archives (Stockholms Stadsarkiv) and distributed by Nordsteds Rabén Multimedia. You can buy the CD here: http://aforum.genealogi.se/bokhandeln/ CD-skivor, Söder i våra hjärtan. 495 SEK.
