I am looking for information on Captain Josua von Völschow, born in 1693 in Greifswald, Germany died in Kalmar, Sweden in 1732.  This information was taken from a Swedish posting on Anbytarforum.  It is said that his daughter was Anna Dorothea von Vollschow/Völschow,born about 1718.    Anna Dorothea married Jonas Handberg in 1740.  When he died, she married inspector Carl Johan Twist (1713?) in Fryele (jönköping)  GID 227 1081.14; C:2: 1739-1784; Births Deaths  17600  0/3 normal page.  Any information about Anna's possible father, mother, and siblings would be appreciated.  I have not been able to find Josua's death record in Kalmar.

Hi Barbara!

The information on anbytarforum about his death 1732 in Kalmar is not enterily wrong, he died in Kalmar but the notice is found in Stenberga parish, province of Jönköping were he was living with his family at Bo Boo.

Hej,

I think you have to check this one.

There is one Sara in church records for Döderhult, Kalmar län, born Sept 4, 1780, in Humlekärrshult, Döderhult.

Her parents:

Bonden farmer/peasant Lars Larsson and his wife Lena Svensdotter

See enclosed copies from www.arkivdigital.se:

Födelsebok 1739-1784
Döderhult, Jordan, I think you got the correct information from Marianne, if you can trust the information about Erik Persson’s birthdate and place. That is the starting point here. And there is only one boy born at this date, and that is Eric, with parents Pehr Larsson and Karin Ersdotter. And as I wrote there is a son Lars born 1833 and a son Jan born 1838.

I think the researcher who said that Karins’s name was Olsdotter was wrong. It is easy to read Ersdotter as Olsdotter, but when you follow her in several records it is easy to see the difference. Never trust other researcher without verifying

The first wife of Josua von Völschow dies at Bo, Stenberga parish 1725-10-22 (C:2 Stenberga p 212). Her name is not mentioned in the deathbook, just that she is the wife of Cap: Volshcou and that there was a stillborn son too. This must have been the mother of Anna Dorothea (who is said to be born around 1718).

The second marriage for Josua von Völschow you can find in C:2 Stenberga p 156. Strangely the marriage is dated 1725-05-06, but I think it should be 1726 instead. The notices are in quite a disorder as you can see... He then marries honourable mrs Margareta Ebba Falkengren.

There are several children born to this couple in Stenberga:

Carl Fredrik 1727-06-14
Johan Gustaf 1728-09-13
Margareta Sophia 1730-06-02
Catharina Elisabeth 1731-08-08

C:1 Fryele p 32
1735-08-17 Kyrkoherden Mag. Andreas Höök samt fru Capitainskan Margaretha Ebba Falckengren copulerades 1735 d 17 Augusti af Hr Probsten Liung (Ljung). Gud gifve dem lycka.

The reverend Andreas Höök and captains wife Margaretha Ebba Falckengren were married 1735 on August 17th by the dean Ljung. May God give them happiness.

You can find Anna Dorothea von Völshow as witness at christenings in Fryele as jungfru (honourable young girl). There are some marriages missing in the marriagebook of Fryele between 1739-06 and 1743. Jonas Handberg is said to be a corpral when he is mentioned in the churchbook of Fryele. He dies in 1742 and Anna Dorothea marries the bailiff Carl Johan Twist in 1743-11-13 (C:2 Fryele p 2).

Carl Johan Twist is born in Ryssby, province of Kronoberg in 1712-07-30 (CI:3 Ryssby p 48). Mons = monsiegneur Johan Twist and his wife Hedvig Påhlmans child born at July 30th and baptised on August 7th, named Carl Johan. The place of birth are Strättö (spelled Strette? in the old books).

If you look at www.dis.se you can find some more information about the persons above.

Johan Twist (Tvist) born 1671 Ryssby, married 1701 S:t Petri, province of Malmöhus, married 1711 Ryssby. Hedvid Påhlman married 1711 Ryssby, dead 1749 Gällaryd.

C:1 Gällaryd p 585
deathbook 1749-04-28 dies honourable mrs Hedevig Påhlman at Gällaryd, buried May 4th. 76 years old.

The Påhlman family are also nobility.

Regards

Britt-Marie

You are truly amazing!  I have looked in various parishes on Genline for more information about these families until my eyes are blurry, and now you send me all of these gems.  I don't think that I would ever have found this information on my own.  I always thought that my heritage was all Swedish, and now I know I have a drop of German blood.  Thank you again Britt-Marie.

Hi Britt-Marie,  I have been looking at the documents that you cited.  I think the död date for the first wife of Josua von Völschow should be 1724 -10-22, not 1725 (C:2 Stenberga p. 212).  If I am correct about his first wife's death year,  his second marriage date would be plausible at 1725-05-06.  The journey continues, Barb

Hi Barbara!

That´s correct, 1724 is the right year. Then the marriagedate makes sense...
