I'm looking for the birth of my ancestor Olof Carlsson in Örebro, Örebro Län in 1776.  I find only one Olof in the birth book in GID 2316.128.2500, but since he lists no father, do you think that this is my Olof?

It's quite possible but definitely not a certainty. You just have to follow the Olof you've found forward in time through Hfls and see what happens to him. Usually - though there are certainly exceptions - children are shown without patronymics or surnames until they're 15 and get confirmed - and move out.
