In looking at my ancestor Abraham Månsson and his family in GID 2395.17.41300 I am wondering about the first son Bangt(?).  Was he born in 1734 before the marriage of Abraham and Stina?  And what does it say next to his name to the right?

Also, under Cherstin, who are the 3 beginning wtih Magnus?

Thanks for your help!

In GID 2395.17.35600 it shows his son's name as Bengl I believe.  Still wonder who his mother is.

The name is Bengt - in English it would be Benedict.
He is probably a son in a previous marriage; plenty of time for Abram to have been married before marrying Stina (who by the way was awfully young when she married).
Since people are always enumerated in relation to the head of household, Bengt is son even though he is not the son of the wife. If he had been the wife's but not the husband's son he should have been designated wife's son - although this was quite often missed too; step-children are often enumerated as children plain and simple.

You are an angel.  Thanks for your kind help and explainations!  I am having trouble finding Abraham's first wife, but I'll keep looking.

Thanks again.

The marriage record for Abraham and Stina is at GID 2395.11.19600 (1746, 05 Sep). I would have expected it to state that Abraham was a widower, enkling (modern spelling änkling) or some abbreviation of it, but there is no title at all.
(I don't see why I thought Stina so very young to be married, she was 26, exactly normal.)

The birth record for Bengt is at GID 2395.11.14900. He was born 23 June 1734 to Abraham Månsson and his wife Ingebor (modern spelling Ingeborg Bengtsdotter.

I think Stina was Abraham's third wife!?! Because there is a death record (at GID 2395.11.20700) of Abraham Månsson's wife, at Skepsta Carin Nils (that's short for Nilsdotter). She died 04 March 1746.
That's really cutting it awfully fine! Because Abraham wasn't allowed to marry until 04 Sep, and he actually got married to Stina on the 5th! (There was a 6 month hiatus for widowers and 12 months for widows before they were allowed to re-marry.)

I did a quick look for Abraham's first wedding, but couldn't find it. However, his first wife may not have been from this parish and then it wouldn't have been recorded here.

Hi Ingela,

Was the longer waiting period for widows because of the possibility that she might be bearing a child of the deceased man?
