Where is Vaster, Gotland

My Grandmother was born in Vaster, Gotland, but I cannot find it on any map of Gotland.  Her father was Johan Sjöqvist and mother was Katarina.  She had a brother that remained in Sweden, Algot Sjöqvist.  I have a picture of Johan's tomestone but do not know what city it is located in.
I'm planning a trip to Sweden in June and wish to visit where my grandparents originated and meet relatives.

I would guess that it is not Gotland at all, but probably Västergötland, which is the biggest county in the west of Sweden.

There is a place Västers in the parish Boge not far from Slite on the eastern coast of Gotland. Perhaps this is the place?

It will be easier to find them and the place if you have some birth year for your greatmother or her father. I just find a couple of Sjöqvist's in the census of 1890 and 1900 for Gotland. They came from Ekeby parish. But no one with your names.

To answer Elisabeth, my grandmother's name and birthday is - Agnes Zenobia Sjöqvist, born Oct. 30, 1896, she imigrated between 1910 to 1914, and used the last name of Carlson when entering the U.S. She had cousins here in Escanaba, MI. that were Carlson's.

OK, then she is probably identical with Agnes Zenobia Johansdotter, born 1896 Oct.30 in Kalv, Älvsborg county (province of Västergötland) and who emigrated from there 1912 Oct.3.
 
Agnes Johansson, age 16, left the port of Göteborg on Oct.16 with a ticket for Escanaba.
 
She travelled in the company of Anna Carlsson, 28 years old, who was an American, and also had a ticket for Escanaba.

Dave, the 28 years old Anna Carlsson is most probably Anna Charlotta Karlsdotter born Sep. 18 1884 in Klägghult 1:8, Kalv (P). She was the daughter of Johanna Katarina Eliasdotter (born May 30 1860 in Klägghult 1:8, Kalv) before she was married to Agnes Zenobia's father (Anders Johan Johansson Sjökvist born Apr. 14 1866 in Sjölid, Humlered, Kalv). Anna's father was told to be soldier K. J. Nyberg in Ö Frölunda, (P) and Anna moved to the U.S.A. 1900.
 
You mentioned Algot Sjöqvist. I remember him from when I grew up. If you're planning to come to Sweden this summer, try to make it in the end of June. On Saturday, June 28 we have a “home coming day” in Kalv and that would be a good opportunity to meet relatives. I know there are more Americans planning to come then.
