I am searching for my husband's grandfather's ancestors.  His name was Karl Johan Johannisson, born about 1854, in the above location.  He emigrated to Denmark during a famine in Sweden sometime before 1878.  We do not know his parents names.  Boget seems to be either the name of the farm or have some connection to them.  Three of Karl Johan's youngest sons added Boget to their names with a hyphen sometime around 1924 - making their surname Johannessen-Boget.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  It will be much appreciated!

Södra Sandsjö seems for me be the parish you are searching for and Böket is the name of the place.

Thank you so much for posting an answer!  Can anyone tell me how to get in touch with the church of that parish in order to get records for the time period I need?  Does Boket (o with an umlaut) have a meaning in Swedish?  Would it be the name of a village or of a farm?  Is there somewhere that farm names are listed?

Can anyone tell me how to get the special Swedish letters of the alphabet to print on a MAC?  I've tried the directions given for a PC and they don't seem to work.

Sorry to ask so many questions at once, but this is so exciting!!  Jennifer

Hi Jennifer-
On a MAC keyboard, for ä and ö, hold down the
option key and press the u, let go of both and
press the a or o. For å, hold down the
option key while pressing a.

You can order a topographic map of the Swedish
parish that you are interested in from Travel
Genie and it has all the old names of the farms
and villages on it. Go to-
http://www.netins.net/showcase/travelgenie
They are the Green Maps and are approx 2 ft. X 2
ft. and cost US$12.95 + postage. They will search
for a specific farm name for you to be sure it is
there before they send you the map. They have
always responded to my e-mails within 24 hours.

Here is the website for Swedish Yellow Pages
where I found the address of a parish church about
9 months ago-- I think it is still correct:
http://www.crossnet.se

Have you tried searching through the Swedish
parish records on microfilm at a Family History
Center near you? It might be faster.
