Has anyone heard of the village of Andvart, Varmland, Sweden?  I am not sure if it is spelled correctly.  I would like to know which parish it was in.

Any help would be wonderful!

Thank You!

Where did you see this location (Andvart) written? Was it written in a Swedish source or did you find it written in an American source or ???? I can't find any location similar to that in various sources, such as a Swedish road atlas.

I did a google search and found the word Andvart in another one of your messages. None of the Swedes seemed to say where Andvart comes from, so perhaps it is just an attempt by an American in your family to spell something else.

Is this person from that thread the person you are wondering about from Andvart?

I think this is the family on Emibas, even though names and locations are garbled.

I can't see where Andvart comes from, however.

Hi Judy,
I took your advice to comb through any family papers that I could find.  Thank you!  Yes, it is probably an American version of that word.

I had forgotten that I had a short family history from one of my relatives that Andrew Johnson (aka Anders Nilsson)had at one time lived in the village of Andvart.  At the time of that old post you found, I had not known anything about the family living in Gunnarskog.  Olle Anderson and some others kindly helped me find that information in 2005.

After you mentioned combing through papers, etc.  I found that history again.  I also spoke with a distant relative in her late 80's.  She said that when Andrew was alive he had a friend that travelled to Sweden.  While the friend was visiting there, he looked up the village where Andrew had lived for a time.  I am not sure which years.  She still has the letter with the name of the village, but she had missplaced it.  I will try to call again this week to see if she has found the letter.

Anyway, I am convinced now that the family emmigrated from Treskog June 3, 1870.  I was just curious about this village and what years Anders may have lived there.

Thanks again for your help.
Heather Shepard
