Eriksson - Two sons with same name

I am researching my husband's Swedish ancestors, mostly from Berga, Kronoberg. The family records have imperfect English variations of the Swedish which I have tried to correct.  
Gustave Albert Erickson, b. 26 Feb 1884, Hulje, and emigrated to the US around 1900-1903.  Gustave's father was Nils Petter(Peter) Erickson (Eriksson, Ericsson).    I found 2 Nils Peter Ericksson with various spellings both with the correct parents names:  Erik Henrikson (Hindricsson) and Marta Eriksdotter (Ericsdr)BUT also with 2 different birth dates.  
Question:  would it be likely that the first son died (b. 16 Oct 1835) and the family gave the same name to the second boy (b. 6 Sep 1839 and Christened 8 Sep 1839)?
I am very new to the Swedish genealogy and will appreciate any help.

It is most likely that the first son died and they gave the same name to the next son. It was quite common.

Yes, and july 18th 1836 a nine month old Nils Peter Eriksson dies in Berga, GID 817.24.37600.

As the others said - you are quite right.
The first Nils Peter was born October 16 1835 at Ösläf Södergård and died July 18 1836. Ref.: Berga AI:8 page 233  
The parents moved already in 1837 to Guddarp Kronogård (Berga AI:9 page 320) and had first a daughter Anna Stina born May 1st 1837. And then the second child - Nils Peter September 6 1839.
