Hey,
I've been told that Björndal was a village that was a part of Ingatorp parish, which in turn is in Jönköping län.  I cannot seem to find that particular village in the Genline records for Ingatorp parish.  I've searched others, such as Mellby and Hult because of information given to me.  I'm still not finding it.
Can anyone help me?
Is there a list of villages included in each parish for each county?
Bill

There is no Björndal in Ingatorp parish but I have found a soldier´s or hussar´s cottage Björndal in Bellö parish wich is a part of Ingatorp church district (parishes Ingatorp and Bellö). If you use Genline you can find it, as an example, on GID 254.20.50200 (Bellö AI:10 p. 12). Is this what you are looking for?

Stefan,
I searched the forum in Landskap under Småland and Västergötland but still couldn't find Ingatorp parish, nor could I find Jönköping län.  Can you help me find it on the forum so I can put my question on a more specific platform?
Thanks

Bill,

The Rosenberg CD lists a place called Björndal in the following locations, but Rosenberg doesn't generally include small places which might also have that name.

a village in Stockholms län:

Björndal i Stockholms län. By i Riala sn, Åkers skplg.

a farm in Strängnäs rural parish (landförslg):

Björndal i Södermanlands län, Åkers hd. Gård i Strengnäs landsförslg, s. om staden.

a village in Tystberga parish

Björndal i Södermanlands län, Rönö hd. By i Tystberga sn under Björksund. Qvarn, tax. 3,500 kr.

Rosenberg also lists a lot of locations spelled Björndalen. None of these are in Småland province.

I have no specific knowledge about Ingatorp, but I looked at some household examination records to see if there were any farm/village indexes and in one of them (AI:4, 1813-17, GID 261.6.31200) I found the name Björndal. So apparently there has been a Björndal (at least in the index!) but I haven't had time to look for it. Anyhow, at the page the index points to (p. 127) is no Björndal, but Himmestorp Västragård (West farm). If there is a connection I don't know.

Jöran is correct, the cottage Björndal doesn´t exist anymore. But the index in the household examination he refers to (Ingatorp AI:4, 1813-17, GID 261.6.31200) points to page 327. However, the last page is 325 and there we have it! On top of this page is a note, saying that (Björndal) does properly belong to Bellö parish. The people attend the examinations in I-torp.
Who are you looking for and when? I might have more information for you!

regards
Stefan

Sorry! Don´s GID number is the correct number.

Thanks Stefan,
The person I am looking for is Jonas Danielson Häll b. 27 Dec 1785 Björndal, Ingatorp parish (so I am told)  He became a horse-soldier for Hult in Mellby parish.   But I couldn't find any records of that either.  He was born and Christened Jonas Gabriel, son of horse-soldier Daniel Berggren and Sara Gabrielsdotter.  Although,  I was told that information, I thought that I might be able to see the records on Genline.  I am also looking for his father Daniel Berggren and his birth and death information.
GID 1096.19 p.43 shows Jonas Häll, wife Anna Petersdotter, children, Magnus, Jonas, Anna Cathrina, Petter, and Johan (GID 1096.1 p.48 shows another daughter Sara Stina)  In the column following their birth dates and parish there is another colmun that is headed Hitkom. and it is written on Jonas Häll's line under Ifrån it says Ingat år 1815.  What does this mean? Is that the year they moved to Sammekulla?
Thank you all for the help
Bill

Judy,
I must've been blind for not seeing the discussions for Bellö and Ingatorp.  Thank you.

Jöran and Dan,
I have found those same records you had mentioned and unfortunately came up with no results.  As for the GID 261.6 p.325 I thoughtthat perhaps there was another file that continued the rest of that book, but i couldn't find that either.  Stefan gave some really good points as well.  i thank you all for the help
Sincerely

Here are two links to the surveying office, lantmäteriet:

http://historiskakartor.lantmateriet.se/arken/s/show.html?archive=REG&showmap=tr ue&searchType=v&nbOfImages=6&documentAccessCode=lm06%3A0003ryg5

http://historiskakartor.lantmateriet.se/arken/s/show.html?showmap=true&archive=L MS&nbOfImages=3&documentAccessCode=LMS_%3ALMS_E11-6%3A1

The first shows a map from 1810 with descriptions of the areals after 'storskiftet'. (Don't ask me to translate that now. It's over 3 a.m. here in Stockholm and I'm soon going to bed) There is no name on the map but Björndal is the part to the far right.

The second link shows deeds of purchase when it was sold in 1906. There are some references in it to the map.

I have also found Björndal mentioned on a modern map but I'll give you more details tomorrow. Björndal was under a village called Borstrulla. This still exists and is in both maps, the old and the modern.

Good Night!
Stefan

Thank you,
I know it may seem a little silly asking such easy questions, but I have trouble translating sometimes.  One other thing that has been bothering me is that I see in some household examinations the name Wisby as a place where someone was born or moved to or from, but I cannot find it as a parish. Example GID 2674.14 p.22 lines 14-19 and GID 2651.6.40100 birth record for Maria Kristina Olivia Hallgren Oct 29, 1850.  In the birth record it says Wisby forsamling with page numbers after.  In the Household exam. in just says Wisby  I thought that that meant Visby but couldn't find the birth records for the children either
Can anyone help?
Bill

Hi Bill!

You are on the island of Gotland now and Visby (old spelleing: Wisby) is the 'capital' of Gotland. There are two parishes: Visby stadsförsamling,(city parish) and Visby landsförsamling (country parish). You find them as GID 2534 and GID 2646.

I have found the military records for Jonas Häll and some for his father Daniel Berggren. Jonas was 5' 5 3/4 and his horse was a black gelding with a height of 7'. I will give you the information as soon as I can. In the meantime, check this link:

This is what he would have looked like in his uniform.

I figured that Wisby was the old spelling of Visby.  I just wanted to be sure.  On the Genline's records of births for Halla in Gotland (GID 2651.6.40100) on Oct 29 1850, it shows the birth record of Maria Christina Olivia.  After her name I believe that it translates to daughter of former seaman Jacob ____(?),  daughter, Johanna Lisa,  after that I do not know what the next line means  tillhörrands Wisby forsamling I think there are page numbers after that.  What parish would it be referring to the city or country?
Thanks for the links
Bill

Hello Bill!

Jacob's last name is 'Krejare'. The military seamen had names with some nautical connection and 'krejare' was a small, mostly two-masted, freight vessel.
Tillhörande Wisby församling = belonging to Wisby parish. Since it doesn't say otherwise, I think it means the city parish. But I'm a little bit confused about the numbers. The city was divided in 'kvarter', ( » blocks) and those where subdivided in 'tomter' ( » building sites). But the figures are too high to refer to that. I will look into it.

Hello Bill!

Maybe you have found it out allready. I looked into the stadsförsamling and there I found three special books. These are namelists of the people in Visby. The first is in two parts, GID 2534.286 and 2534.271, The other two are GID 2534.272 and 2534.273. You will find Johanna Lisa under the name 'Krejare' in the latter part of the first book, and under the name 'Hallgren' in the other two books. These books also say where to find her in the ordinary books, volume and page. I haven't gone further though.
