I am having difficulty finding more information about Sofia Andersdotter, b. 13 Aug 1841 in Blixerud, Ör parish.  She married Jonas Johannesson Glader (Edlund) 12 Jan 1866.  He came to America twice, returning to Sweden both times.  I don't think she ever came to America.  Four of their six children emigrated to America.  I would like to find her parents' and grandparents' names, if possible.

The Ör (Älvsborg county) C:9 births 1815-1859 page 91 (GID 714.3.5600) has a Sofia born (or baptised?) 3 Sep 1841 to Anders Olsson and Maja Jansdotter at Blixerud.

The family is found in the Ör HFL AI:11 1838-1845 page 44 (GID 714.24.102600) at Blixerud: Anders Olsson born 1802, wife Maja Jansdotter, and 8 children. Here the daughter Sofia's birthdate looks like 3 Aug 1841.

In the Ör HFL AI:13 1850-1855 page 46 (GID 714.27.53200) Sofia's birth date looks like 13 Aug 1841.

Would it have been unusual at that time for the Christening to be Sep 3 if the birthdate was Aug 13?

Yes Andrea, that would have been unusual. Until 1864 the law stated that the child was to be christened within eight days from the birth.

Bo Johansson did a great job and I am sure he found your Sofia. Det dates in the birth-book are birth-dates. If it was christening-dates most of the dates would have been Sundays.

As Bo stated, in the HFL (Household exam) Sofia's birthdate is noted as Aug 13. It is not at all unusual that the HFL:s have incorrect birth-dates. This is probably the case for Sofia too. You should always rely on the birth-books.

Kind regards Neta Hedberg

Thanks to both of you for your help.  There is much I don't understand about Swedish customs and I'm fortunate to have this forum as a resource.  Everyone has been very knowledgeable and helpful!
