Bill Gustavson

Hello,
I have asked many questions and received an enormous amount of help and information on this forum.  I have also began reading the information posted on the In English section of this website as well, and came up with more direction in my genealogy search.  The genline parish records are however, the only records I have access to.  Is there a way to search other records form another site?  Such as Tax records, Legal records and other archives?  the information on this site explains what can be searched or what I could be searching to help my genealogy, however, it does not state how I can look at these records and search databases for information regarding my ancestors.  Can someone help me and point me in the right direction?
Bill

The SVAR site (also fee-based) is starting to scan some mantalslängder.

The rest of my answer requires that you have access to a Family History Center. You need to order films there and view them there.

If you can go to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, you will have access to the help of the people at the Scandinavian Desk. (These records aren't as easy to use as parish records.)

If you want to see mantalslängder on microfilm, you can find film numbers listed in the Family History Library Catalog. Look under the län and then select Taxation. Then select Mantalslängder. Look for your parish (and the appropriate year) and then select the film number or numbers you need.

To find bouppteckningar (estate inventories), you need to look in the Family History Library Catalog under the name of the härad (judicial district). Then select Probate Records which leads to Bouppteckningar.

Court records are also kept under the name of the härad.

Specific questions are much easier to answer. ;-)

Some local geneological societies have some tax and court records available online, for example Tjörns Släktforskare http://www.tjsf.org/

And I believe Arkiv Digital has court records, military records, tax records for some counties http://arkivdigital.se/
