I am looking for information about John Peterson (1846-1902) and his wife Sara (1842-1918). There children were: John, Aaron, Albert (13-May-1881), Augusta (3-JUL-1874) and Oscar (11-NOV-1877). They came to the US after 1877 and settled in Pennsylvania.

Dear Jennifer, those names are all extremely common, and you must try to find out more about them.

Most important is the location where they left from, or where someone of them was born. Also you must try to find out their proper year of emigration. This can usually be found in the US Census of 1900, 1910 or 1920.

Also, where in Pennsylvania did they live? There are records microfilmed from lots of Swedish American churches, and if they were members of a such, lots of helpful info can be found.

Here is a little more information about John Peterson and Sara Christina Benson. They were married around 1867. They had at least 5 children: John, Aaron (b. JUL-1871), Augusta (b. 3-JUL-1874), Oscar (b. 11-NOV-1877), Carl Albert (b. 13-MAY-1881). John came to the US around 1881. Sara and the children followed around 1888. They settled in Johnsonburg, Elk County, Pennsylvania. Any information you have would be helpful. Thank you.

Hi Jennifer, looks like Anna-Lena has found your folks for you, she has access to some special records, that are not generally available yet.

I checked the database Emigranten, and could not find your family there, but might add that there are records microfilmed from Johnsonburg Mission Covenant church, starting in 1890. And there are records from the Swedish Lutheran churches of Wilcox, Dagus Mines and Ridgway, all in Elk county. Those microfilms can be searched by the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center in Rock Islnad, IL.
