Judie Lundgren

In an old Personhistorisk Tidskrift, Olof, Daniel, and Pehr are listed as having died young. Looking at the record (Genline 2104.19.28900) I can see why the author assumed this. It is very hard to make out the abbreviations in the Omständigheter column, but one could think that these boys died. All, in fact, were living. Does anyone have a guess as to the meaning of the entries in that column?

Olof seems to have gone to live elswhere at about age 9 or 10 and is never again listed with his mother or siblings. Was this usual? Might he have gotten into trouble and been sent away? His father died close to the time he left the farm of his family.

Judie,
I'm quite sure that what it says in the coloumn Omständigheter is the year for vaccination of the brothers.
Since vaccination was very important, it was quite common to make a note of it in the Church' records. Normally they used the abbreviation 'Vacc' and the calender year, as in this case.

Olof went to be brought up in another household in the same village (see p 59, Genline 2104.19.28600 - bottom of the page). The note refers to that he arrived for up-bringing i Jan 1821.

Regards
Leif

The question is, in what capacity did Olof stay in this other family, how is his presence explained?
If he is a fosterson (or fosterbarn) then he was there for upbringing; if he is called pojken or gossen he worked for food and lodging (sort of a farmhand trainee).

Ingela,

It actually says fosterson Olof. I did not notice that before.

Of course! On page 59, can you make out what it says he is? It seems it should be fosterbarn but I can't quite see that.

Ingela,

I forgot to thank you for your input. I was not aware of the specific meaning of gossen/pojken as a boy working for food and lodging.
You are never too old to learn something new...!
