Dear Bonnie,

the respond from Vielen Grussen is in German!!! So most Swede's doesn't understand it either. But  Wikström or Wickström are quite a common name in Sweden, so it's hard to trace some with that name if you son't have more information, e.g. where and what year the person was born.

Sincerly,
Andreas

(I started to write this letter before Skoglund's answer, and I didn't see his answer before sending this, now with these words adjusted, message)

Hi Esther.

It isn't that easy to figure out all these [neadless] abbreviations in a foreign language. I wish the CD-rom had been multilingual, but they didn't think that far when they produced it.
Anyhow I will try to translate the abbreviations into English.

For further translations you will find a useful dictionary on line:

Hi Esther.

Try to send a letter to the parish of Bäckebo, including all information you have got. I think that is best way to trace children and grandchildren if there are any. You have the address here:

Clarence! Evert Ruben Basth was born 1909, March 3, not 1903. He died in Karlskoga comm 1992, Nov 21. You can get information of his relatives from the court there (the inventory of estate?), phone +46-586-67411, or address: Karlskoga tingsrätt, Box 110, SE-691 22 Karlskoga, Sweden.

Clarence! The closest to Dalkarlsburg is Dalkarlsberg, a village in Viker parish in Örebro district.

Karlskoga tingsrätt is the local court in the community Karlskoga.

The church records of Viker before 1872 can be found in Uppsala landsarkiv (district archive). After 1928 they are still in the local church.

Viker and Nora are two different parishes. A problem with the name Nora is that there are several different, of whom one earlier was a city, now only a parish and community.

Erik was probably protestant as it was the federal religion in Sweden from the year 1527 until six days ago.

Hello Colleen,

He could even have been called Lorenz or Lorens, but they are not as common names as Lars.

Thanks Ann and Karin.  For Laurence Patterson I am wondering what would be my next step to obtain his birth certificate.  The only information I have is from his marriage and death records in Australia, which shows he was born in Gotland/Stockholm Sweden c. 1846 and immigrated to Australia in c. 1875.

Dear Colleen:

Either he was born in the swedish capital Stockholm or at Gotland which is an island and a Swedish region aswell. Maybe he was born at one of the places and moved to the other before he emigrated to Australia? If you had his swedish name of birth (that may be Lars Pettersson?!) you could search at the Church Records in Stockholm which I believe is available at libraries and central archieves. But you are far away, so if some of the very nice people on Rötter , who have helped me alot, finding ancestors on published CD?s etc. would try to help you. You are just as lucky as I have been sometimes. Well, quite often I must say. A great Thanks for that all Roots experts!
Sincerely Yours: Steve
