Frida Nyqvist

Hi. My name is Frida and I need som american help. I?m looking for my relatives who emigrated to america in the early 1900. I have com quite far b?t now I seem to be stuck in a ded end. I know that Gustaf Turnbom moved to Chicago Illiniose with his wife (or bride to be) Erica Tornbom (Koenig before the marriage). I know that they had two daughters Valborg and Beda who traveled back and forth between Sweden and America. I found them om Ellis islands homepage traveling to Chicago in 1921. In 1922 ther father Gustav died in Chicago and the whole family moved back to Sweden. I alsow know that they were living with Erikas aunt and big brother in chicago. The Aunt who came over first was Maina Johnson and Erikas big broter was Richard Koenig. Richard and his wife are on Ellis islands homeepage as well in 1909. What I?m trying to find out is who this aunt is and her adress in Chicago. Can I find that information on the internet? Plese help!

Hejsan Frida!

In 1909 I see (spelled as it's written in the record) Richard Konig and his wife Elen with an 8-month-old daughter whose name looks like Gjertrud.  They're going to visit his aunt, Mrs. Mina Johnson, who lives at 3553 Seal Avenue, Chicago.

1920 I find the family at West 64th Street in Chicago.  The names are better spelled here:  Richard (age 47), Ellen (36) and Gertrude (11).

1930 the family now owns a home (worth $8,000) at 3318 West 62nd Street in Chicago.  Their last name is spelled Koeing here.  Ages are 58, 48, and 20.  Richard is a laborer for a building contractor.  Gertrude is a stenographer for a mail order house.  All three are naturalized citizens.  The census also says that Richard and Ellen came to the US in 1901; Gertrude came in 1909.

Hi Freda,

I did find the same passenger record on Ancestry for Beda Olivia and Valborg Margaret Tornbom.  They traveled on the Stavangerfjord and arrived in the port of New York on 20 December 1921. Beda was 25 years old at the time. Valborg was 17 years.  They were coming from “kunggt.5.Kristineholm” with the destination of Chicago.  It is noted that they are sisters.

In the 1920 Census, 614 Ewing Avenue, Ward 8, Cook County, Chicago, Illinois, there is this family that looks like it fits:

Turnbow, Fritz G.
Head of household
Age: 45
Immigration: 1905, un-naturalized citizen
Born in Sweden
Occupation: Steel worker

Turnbow, Anna E.
Relationship to head of household: wife
Age 45
Immigration 1907
Born in Sweden

Turnbow, Beda O.
Relationship to head of household: daughter
Age 23
Immigration 1907
Born in Sweden
Occupation: Saleswoman

Turnbow, Margaret W.
Relationship to head of household: daughter
Age 15
Immigration 1907
Born in Sweden

Regards,
Laura

Hi Frida!

Your question was,who is aunt Maina(Mrs. Mina Johnson)in Chicago?.

Where was Erica Tornbom(nee Koenig)from in Sweden and when was she born?
Do you have any information about her parents?
Her aunt, Mina, has to be her father's sister or her mother's sister, or wife to one of her father's brothers or wife to one of her mother's brothers.

Best wishes,

Anne-Lee Wilson

Is this Erika's family in Sweden in 1890? As Ann-Lee suggested, it is hard to help if we don't know more about Erika Koenig. I suppose the name was König in Sweden.

I think she is because she is listed with a husband named Gustaf Törnbörn on the 1900 Swedish Census CD. Maybe he is your Tornbom.

Emibas shows an Augusta Wilhelmina König emigrating. Could she be Mina? Perhaps she was a sister of Karl Johan König (the father of Erika).

I suggest checking that woman in the Swedish parish records to see if she was an aunt of Erika.
