Hi Lori,
I used the useful information from Ingela to check the Ellis Island database. I have used this site (
http://www.tinyurl.com) to reduce the gigantic urls from the Ellis Island site to a more manageable size. These urls show the two manifest pages found by Ingela.
http://tinyurl.com/f8469 http://tinyurl.com/efjm4 The manifest is set up in a very confusing way, but if you count seven sets of relatives down from the top (since Johannes is on line 7), it says that the relative in Sweden is Johanna Carlsson, Skogsåkra, Horred. There is a by = village in Horred parish, according to the Rosenberg cd.
The manifest says that Johannes was born in Horred. The only Johannes born 1898 in Horred on the 1900 Swedish Census cd is the Johannes in this family, and note that the mother is the same as the one listed on the manifest and her residence also matches. Ingela found the correct person.
From the 1900 Swedish Census on the following subscription site:

The 1890 Swedish Census on the same site shows that the father was August Gunnesson.

The manifest said he was going to a place which looks like Elburn. (I agree with Ingela.) I looked on the online 1895 U.S. Atlas site and found the index for locations in Illinois. There was indeed a place called Elburn in Kane County, Illinois. (I don't see Elburn listed in my modern atlas, however.)
http://www.livgenmi.com/1895/IL/Index/e.htm This 1894 Kane County map shows the location of Elburn. St. Charles is not far away, so this seems to be further evidence pointing towards Ingela's find being your person.
