Looking for the emigration record of Axel G Fagerqvist/Fagerquist, born Jan 1865 in Sweden and emigrated 1890 to Worcester, Mass. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, place of birth in Sweden not known. Nothing known about parents. He was a tailor in the US.

This must be Axel in the Emibas CD:

Fagerqvist, Axel Gottfrid
Arbetare (unmarried man)

b. 1/1/1865 in Vårkumla, Skaraborgs län (Västergötland)

Emigrated 7/9/1890
from Kindstugatan 3, Storkyrkoförs, Stockholms stad (Uppland)

Source: Rotemansarkivet, häfte 381, s. 2

Parents (from Statistics Sweden list of births 1865) Leo Lars (no surname) and Lovisa Jansdotter, solder?s people at Stränggården, Vårkumla (a tiny parish in south west Sweden) He was actually born Jan 12 according to this list, to confirm the original book should be used, but that is not on-line yet. The mother was 34 yeaasr of age.

The household register (very messily written) says that the father was Lars Leo, Leo being the surname, b 5 sept 1828, probably at Hallagården in the parish. Wife Lovisa Fahlström (patronymics were sometimes preferred by the priest) born in Falköping 22 June 1830. There were 4 older sisters; anna Mathilda,  Maria, Gustava, Ida Charlotta and a brother, Axel E? b 1862 who died 1864.

The Register of Soldiers has this information on the father (soldiers got new names when they joined):

Leo, Lars  [Andersson] patronymic: son of Anders

Born:  1828-12-08  (different to that above, I tend to believe this)

 Wife:  Fahlström Lovisa
Born:  1830-06-22

  Regiment:  Västgöta regemente
  company:  LASKE
  Parish:  Vårkumla
Section (farm that paid for the soldier):  Stränggården

Axel lived in Stockholm before he left, the last two years in Old Town in the centre. He was a laborer (arbetare)

Our database FALBYGDSRÖTTER, covering births, marriages and deaths in the Falköping area (some 50 parishes) gives the following information on Axel Gottfrid:

Axel Gottfrid b 12 Jan 1865 at Stränggården, Vårkumla parish (R). father: Leo, Lars
Soldier, Mother: Jonsdotter, Lovisa

Lars Leo and Lovisa Jonsdotter (also known as Fahlström) were married 22/12 1850 in Gökhem parish, where we also get the name Andersson for Lars Leo and that Lovisa Fahlström is from
Korsaled, Lilla Anguntorp, Holöja, Gökhem parish.
Lars Leo was a soldier with the Västgöta regemente, Liv kompani and was born in 1822. Lovisa's date of birth is shown as 29 june 1830.

Lovisa Fahlström was born in Luttra parish, but the date of birth differs from above: 28 May 1830. Her parents are shown as Falström, Jonas,
Soldier and Larsdotter, Greta.

We would be happy to help you with more information on your ancestors in our area in return for information as to what happened to those in your family that emigrated to the US, especially when and where they died, which is information that we gather for our database on emigrants from the Falköping area. It seems at least four of Axel's siblings came to the US. Do you know what happend to them?

Can anyone work their magic to find the emigration of Sophia Charlotta , born 23 Apr 1870 to Johannes Andersson and Anna M Karlsdotter? In the US she used the surname Anderson until she married Axel Gottfrid Fagerquist. I'm not sure what surname she would have used to travel. It would have been around 1890. Their first child was born 1891 in Rhode Island.
