Carl August Petersson, my grandfather, was born on 13 December, 1868 and emigrated in 1893. Destination in America was Minneapolis, but he spent the rest of his life in  Arcata, in Northern California. Any information as to home and family in Sweden would be greatly appreciated.

If you are correct about the destination, this is a good possibility BUT his name isn't rare. You will want to make sure the birth date is correct, etc., once you check his parish records.

I checked Genline and there is a Carl August born about that time in Elmeboda, but I can't be sure that the date is the 13th. Perhaps a Swede will take a look at the record for you. It is at GID# 100007.50.65900.(birth #98; sandwiched in-between two births on the 12th, but the date doesn't look like 12 or 13.)
 
The parents are the same as above, but the mother is spelled Carolina and the father is Peter O. The residence is the same as in the 1890 census.

I think you may find more about Carl if you put a request in another forum: Anbytarforum/Källor/CD-skivor/Kronobergsskivan från KGF-Efterlysningar  
Some of them may have the database which includes deaths and births.

parents were - Mans Jonsson and Kajsa ( catharina  
) Andersdotter and she was born 10-04-1736 Ostra  
Harg Ostergotland  
Kajsa Andersdotter was remarried a second time to  
a Petter Nilsson in 1776.
Peter Nilsson was born 1742 and died 1822.

Since posting this query, I need to change some information.
We have now discovered a birth date of December 13, 1863 (not 1868).  Since he was naturalized in 1896, there is a possible emigration date of around 1890 or 1891.
Wasn't sure how else to correct this info.
