August Ericksson shipwrecked off North Carolina 1869

I am told that my ancestor August Erickson (born 17 Jan 1845 in Frisko, Dahlän, Sweden they tell me)was shipwrecked off of the coast of North Carolina in 1869, but I can't find any information on his boat.  I am at a dead end.  I'm not sure that this information is correct either!  Is there anyone that can help me?

Hi Scott,
Do you have any information about the rest of the family? I have found a family in Fröskog, Dalsland that could fit you ancestor. Your spelling could match the pronunciation.  
 
On the 17th of January 1845 August is born to Erik Anderson and Kajsa Jonsdotter in Byn, Fröskog.  
(Älvsborg, Fröskog, C:15 1820 - 1850.  GID 1897.17.86400)
 
I followed the family for a few years and it grows. When they leave Fröskog for Dals- Ed it looks like this:

If these are names you know, it should be your August. If so put a posting for him on one of the emigrant discussions. There you might find the name of the ship.
 
I will not have time to look for the family in Dals Ed this week-end, but someone else may if you just confirm or deny the information I found.

I have no information about the shipwreck but I have found your ancestor in the Swedish Church records on Genline, a subscription site. August Eriksson was born Jan 17, 1845 in the village of Byn, Fröskog parish, Dalsland (Älvsborgs län), Sweden. His parents were Erik Andersson b Aug 3, 1811 and Casja Jönsdotter b Sept 9, 1815, the god parents were Magnus Larsson and his wife Casja Ersdotter who lived in the same village.
 
I could not find any information on the Emibas CD but maybe someone else could look for him in other records by using the information I have just posted.

Can anyone help substantiate the shipwreck or tell me how they got to the US?

The stories passed down to us tell about a young August Erickson serving on a cargo ship that was carrying timber into North Carolina. It wrecked and the sailors clung to pieces of the timber and floated to shore.  Not sure if that's true or just a family story.  I haven't been able to substantiate the story.  Can anyone help?

According to the household roll in Dals-Ed August leaves for America on 7 Feb 1868. I have not found him in the Emigrant lists for Gothenburg or in the Emigranten CD.
