I?ve tried to locate any now living ancestors to my fathers cousin, who lived in N.Y until 1950-60 in Queens, address 8020-85th Road
Woodhaven 21., L.I, U.S.A.
Her name was Signe Johansson and har fathers name was August Johansson born 1870, Nov 3rd in Svanshals parish in the county Ostergotland.
 I have tried to locate her by U.S. Social Security Act but faild. There is a lady with the same namn in the Act, but this is not my ancestor.
I will by very thankful to any suggestions how to
go futher.

Hej Carin,

Det finns två Signe Johansson i New York i Social Security Death Index;

Signe Johansson, b. 17 Dec 1897 d. 10 May 1989, New York, SSN 051-42-0420

Signe Johansson, b. 10 Feb 1903 d. 23 Apr 1990, New York, SSN 054-12-8619

MEN om hon gifte sig så finns hon i dessa register med sitt nya efternamn. Om jag får hennes födelsedag, månad och år så kanske jag kan hitta henne.

Mvh

Sorry, I did not realize the title of Discussions in English so I better post my answer above in English as well.

Hello Carin,

There are two Signe Johansson in Social Security Death Index;

Signe Johansson, b. 17 Dec 1897 d. 10 May 1989, New York, SSN 051-42-0420

Signe Johansson, b. 10 Feb 1903 d. 23 Apr 1990, New York, SSN 054-12-8619

BUT if she got married she will be registered with her new surname in these registers. If you give me her birthdate I might be able to find her.

Regards

And more;

I found one Signe Johansson that married Charles Everette L?Hommedieu in 1925, Brooklyn, Kings, NY
but no Signe L?Hommedieu, Hommedieu or Everette in the SSDI. Contrary to what I said above but by exception, a married lady can be registered in the SSDI with her maiden name so it is still a possibility.

There is a Charles Hommedieu in the SSDI that was born 17 Sep 1901 d. Dec 1971 in Nesconset, Suffolk, NY

There are quite a number of L'Hommedieu living in New York today (see www.infousa.com)

and finally;

Charles L'Hommedieu died living in Smithtown, Suffolk, NY. Today there are 3 addresses with people from the L'Hommedieu family;

John L'Hommedieu, 89 Wesleyan Road, Smithtown, 11787 NY

M L'Hommedieu, 156 Juniper Avenue, Smithtown, 11787 NY

Richard G L'Hommedieu, 140 River Road, Smithtown, 11787 NY

AND

the person called Signe Johansson born 17 Dec 1897, d. 10 May 1989 died very close to Smithtown as the zipcode where she was living in 1989 was 11782 NY

Hope some of this information can be helpful!

Hello Mats.
I think we have to continue in English although we both speek Swedish. I do not know the birthdata of my ancestor. The only thing I know is that she is not Signe Johansson born 1903. I?ve sent for her Social Security Act, and accordning to the papers, she is not my Signe.
I did not find Signe born 1897 when I search for her in the S.S.A  Thank you for this new
suggestion. I\ll try to get her S.S.Act.
But, even if I get this, and she seems to bee my Signe, who as you mention, died in 1989 in the area with zipcode 11782, how can I from this information, find more details about her and remaining ancestors?

Hi Carin,

If you go to SSDI and look for SSN 051-42-0420 you can click to get a template of a letter to Social Security in the USA. Sending this letter and paying a fee of 7$ you will get a copy of her application for the Soc. Sec. card. Their you can possibly see realtives to her. I copied the letter below:

---------------------------------------------
Date of request: 14 Jan 2001

Social Security Administration
Office of Central Records Operations
Attention: FOIA Workgroup
P.O. Box 17772
300 N. Greene Street
Baltimore, Maryland 21290

Please send me a photocopy of the actual application for a Social Security card (Form SS-5--Social Security Number Record Third Party Request for Photocopy) filed by the person listed below.

I obtained this information from the Social Security Death Master file at RootsWeb.com, Inc. who obtained it from the Social Security Death Master file, originally compiled by the Social Security Administration.

My understanding is that the fee is $7, when the Social Security number is provided or $16.50 if the Social Security number is unknown or incorrect. Enclosed is a check or money order for $___________, made payable to the Social Security Administration.

Thank you for your assistance.

JOHANSSON, SIGNE
