Please look for an emigration record for:

Husband: Anders P. Oakberg (Andrew in USA)
Wife: Anna Maria (42 - born 21.11.1831)
Date: 1874 (spring of the year)
From: Älvsborgs Län (probably Parish Murum)

Hi Joel,

I think that Oakberg would have been Ekberg in Sweden. Ek = oak.

According to the Emigranten database, the  following family emigrated in 1874 May 1:

Anna Maria Ekberg, age 42
s.Per Johan, age 15
d. Anna, age 11
d. Emma, age 9
s. Frans, age 6

They all travelled through the port of Göteborg and all had tickets for Orion, no state listed.

The problem is the place they came from, which is listed as Gravared, OA county, which would mean a place in Göteborg och Bohus län, and I cannot find such a place in my gazetteer. There is a parish, named Grovare in Älvsborg county, which might be a possibility. Perhaps somebody else in this Forum knows better?

Thank you all.  I checked my source. The names of the children are the same.  They are correct. I did not think to mention them earlier.  The destination is correct.  Orion is a small town in Illinois near Moline.

Thanks Again!

The place Kungshamn in Kungshamn's parish, Göteborg and Bohus län, was called Gravarne before 1963.
Could that be it?

I noticed that Grovare in Älvborgs Län is in the same township as Murum.  Anna Maria's sister, Carolina Bodin, emigrated from Murum in August of 1881.

I now have the information for the husband, Andrew Oakberg.  Would someone please check the Emigranten CD for him?

Anders Ekberg
year: 1872
age: 41 or 42
from: (probably Grovare), Älvsborgs Län
To: Illinois

Hi Joel,

there?s no Anders Ekberg who emigrated in 1872. There are no other Ekbergs than those mentioned above emigrating from Gravared.
There are 8 Anders Ekbergs who emigrated but all of them emigrated after 1879.

I have learned from census records and other sources that the family used the name Peterson in Illinois.  Then I found the record for the husband Anders Petersson on the emigranten CD (6:307:6997).  The parish was Grafvarne.
