Please, would someone do a lookup on the Emigranten CD for me? I have different evidence about his place of birth. It may have been Linkoping or Stockholm. I have no parish names.

His family should include
Wife (2nd) Agnes Emilie Fors b. Aug 1864 Stockholm
 Daughter Gertrude May 1885
 Son Fritzhof b. Mar 1889

Any information from this source or others would be appreciated.

In the Emigranten the following family was found as having left from Linköping, and leaving the port of Göteborg on 1891 Sept.1 with tickets for Chicago:

Gustaf Emil Ekström, age 29
w. Agnes Emilia, age 27
s. Frithiof Benedict, age 2
d. Gerda, age 6
Augusta Ch. Sandin, age 21

The source code is 46:183:3258

The next step is to search for this family in the records of Linköping, and you can find those records at your nearest Family History Center.

Thank you, Elisabeth, for the very fast response.

Is there a special meaning to the source code?

The source code can be used to find the name of the ship that transported the emigrants from Sweden to England. There were no direct ships from Sweden to the US in the 1800s, so the name of the ship they took from England to the US is not available in Swedish records.

Hi, Karin,

Thank you very much!

I did not think that they might visit Sweden, so I did not look at Ellis Island. Gustaf was a tailor in Evanston, Illinois, so this is my family. In this 1924 manifest there is a naturalization date and now I know there was a passport. Perhaps I can find the parish of birth from one of these sources.
