I am new to this site so my apologise if I am posting this incorrectly.

I have located the people I am looking for on the page Karlskrona-stadsförsamling-AIIa-18-1910-1934-Image-2030-page-3195 on ArkivDigital.

The people are Berquist and Peterson lines 13,14,15,16 and 17.

The address at the top of the pages is 14:65,66,67

1. How do I find the same people in the 1941 Population register going from the information in the Congregation book.

2.  On the left hand side of the page are the are some left point  arrows, small triangles and the number 8311, what do these all mean?

I tried to upload the page but it is greater than the 500kB limit, is there a method I should be using to attached the page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Arne for your help.

Could you tell me where the reference 18840520-330  is from?

Also are there an genealogist that specialise in Swedish seaman, crew lists, etc.

I am trying to find ship and route information for 4 brothers from Kalmar that were all seaman, only one returned to Kalmar, the others went to North America and New Zealand.

As they were seaman it is very unlikely they travelled as passenger, much better to get paid for the voyage than to buy a ticket.

Are there any tools or subscription that you would recommend, I have started with ArkiDigital and so far put together a family tree from 1800 to 1934 of approx 100 people.

Where I am having problems is after 1934 no more Congregation books and also family member who have emigrated to North America, plus the 4 seaman.

18840520-330 is a personnummer - social securtity number.
birth year 1884 birth month 05 = may  birt date 20
the 330 is a running number whith some connection to where you
were born or lived in 1940´s, when the system was introduced.
Today one more number is added which is a computerized checknumber.

I dont know of any specific geneagist dealing with seaman etc.
There is one guy on this board, Ingemar Gollungberg that seems to be interested in at
least the ships.
ArkivDigital has a lot of registers on seaman, they are shown under subtitle Sjömanshus
not sure how it looks if you got a English version.
An exampel
Sjömanshuset i Kalmar DIIa:9 (1863-1863) Bild 40 (AID: v285056.b40, NAD: SE/VALA/00666)

SVAR, the other supplier also have some of them searchable

I also have a CD with a databas EMISJÖ with seaman who checked out, died or jumped the ship
abroad

ArkivDigital has a new betaversion that you can download which includes 1950 census.
I checked but dont think it is translated yet
http://www.arkivdigital.se/

Give me one of them and I ll give him a try

Hi Arne,

A little bit of my family history.

My Great grandfather was a Gustaf Pettersson from Kalmar who is in Auckland 1874 and marries there in 1878.

Family oral history states that he was a seaman and may have jumped ship at some stage. He may also have a sister called Maria and was to go back to Sweden after a death in the family but was to unwell.

There are no records in New Zealand giving his Gustaf date of birth or his parents name. There records where he signs his name and states he is from Kalmar.

My sister started looking for Gustaf about 30 years ago, starting with the Seaman House records Kalmar, we short listed Gustaf Pettersson born between 1840 and 1850 we have be able to eliminate some of the possibilities.

Currently there is one family from Övraby no 3,Söderåkra that appears to be the most likely. Gustaf has 3 brothers also seamen.

Gustaf Peterson born 2/11/1842      Listed as a sailor in 1863 at the Seaman's house in Kalmar and discharged in 1867. I understand the discharge was because he had no contact with the seaman house for 2-3 years.

Carl Pettersson born 19/10/1837      Carl was a “styrman”  he traveled to Auckland, New Zealand in 1871 but returned to Sweden. He married in Sweden in 1875.

Per Peterson born 4/7/1845       If I am reading Söderåkra-AI-8b-1861-1871-Image-406-page-711 correctly Per was registered at the Seamans house 66,67,68,69,and 70 and is going to North America 1872

Sven Peterson born 9/4/1835      Sven is given permission to go overseas 1857

Now the interesting thing if I have found the correct Gustaf is that there is a good possibility of Carl and Gustaf where in New Zealand in 1874 before Carl returns to Kalmar.

Thanks again for you help.
