I believe the siblings used the name 'Holm' in the US. One reason could be that it is easier for English speaking persons to pronounce.

Have a look at this marriage in Burlington, Des Moines county, Iowa, shortly after Jonas Peter Sjöholm arrived to Amerika. He uses the name 'Holm', still his fathers name is John Shoeholm. His mother is said to be Johannie Carlson which is not 100% correct (Johanna Katarina Jonasdotter). However, John states he his 23 years old (estimated birth year 1864-1865) and that he's from Waxoe, Sweden. Most likely that would be Växjö, in Kronoberg. Dädesjö is located 25 km northeast of Växjö.

This might be the above John Holm in census 1900. His wife Ingrid Gustava might have used the name 'Augusta'. His date of birth is February 1864 (Jonas Peter Sjöholm was born February 2nd, 1864) and he immigrated about 1886 and was married around 1887. The two oldest children are said to be born in Iowa, the youngest ones in Illinois (the family reside in Chicago).

The family also includes a nephew, Arthur Nelson, born 1881 in Minnesota.

There is a family tree on ancestry with John P Holm, wife Augusta and their children:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/39210079/person/20356653575?ssrc=&ml_rpos=1

According to this family tree they moved to Montana between 1910 and 1920. Do not know if this is correct, but maybe it could be worth contacting the owner and ask for more information.

I looked up Johan August Larson in the church records. So here is some more info on him and his family.

According to Lyrestad C:3 (1856-1879) AD Image 28 (no page number available) Johan August was born June 19th 1862. It is only in this source that the date of birth is June 19th. All other sources have June 18th.

The family is found in Lyrestad AI:5 (1861-1870) page 135:
Lars Johan Johansson born July 24th 1827 (bricklayer according to the birth record above)
Beata Andersdotter born June 21st 1826
Christina born February 27th 1855 (daughter)
Lovisa born December 1st 1857 (daughter)
Carl Johan born October 13th 1859 (son)
Johan August born June 18th 1862 (son)
Frans born January 24th 1865 (son)
Charlotta born October 13th 1867 (daughter)

According to Lyrestad AI:6 (1861-1870) page 303: Frans dies May 25th 1869.
According to Lyrestad AI:12 (1886-1899) page 312: Beata dies April 18th 1897.
According to Lyrestad AIIa:3 (1900-1914) page 360: Lars Johan dies October 9th 1913.

I have another question.  On Maria S. Holm Larson's death record it states that her mother was Katherine Sasvat.  All other records list mother as Johanna Katerina Jonasdotter.  Mistake? Discrepancy? Hidden meaning?

Hi Carol, according to Hornaryd C:2 1752-1860, Johanna Katerina Jonasdotter's parents were soldier Jonas Nilsson Såfvat and his wife Catherina Mågnidotter.

Can you find out more about the Arthur Nelson, born 1881, In Minnesota, who was listed on the 1900 census as living with John Holm and his wife Ingrid Gustava.  We have an Uncle Art who was married to my husband's father's sister Frances Larson.  Rumor has it that she was second wife.  I have no name for the first wife, but it is said they had three children before she died.  Thank you.
