I am looking for descendents/relatives  of Emma Karlson,  born 1881/82 in Sweden.  Her father's name was Frederick Karlson,  a shoemaker.  She had three sisters:  Hilma and Selma,  and Agnes who married Oscar Anderson and moved to the North Dakota,USA approximately 1905. We believe the family resided in Alvesborg but do not know the parish.

Emma married Carl Eriksen (farmer, born 1861) in England.  I have the marriage certificate,  which gives her age as 24 and Carl's age as 44.  They were married March 4, 1905. Their route was Hamburg,  Hull,  Liverpool,  then US (probably New York),  Edmore,  North Dakota US,  then to Canada approx. 1908/09.  City of Chester was their ship,  but I don't know which part  leg of the journey.

I am travelling to Sweden in June and would very much like to meet relatives or at least see the land on which Emma was born.

Sharon!

This must be the Fredrik Karlsson family:

Emma (Mina) was born in Dalskog parish, Dalsland county, Älvsborgs län.
You'll get a hit if you input Dalskog into Google map.

I lived just a few miles from Dalskog (at Dals-Rostock) some 25 years ago !.

Regards,

Olle

Hello Lena Anderson,

How exciting!  I just posted my query yesterday!  I am very new at this--can you suggest what would be my next step?  I think I need to contact the parish, but how?

To save you some time here is what the census has to say.  Frederik shoemaker with wife Gustava Andersdotter are living in a place called Båsane Norre in Dalskog with children Mina 1881, Selma 1882, Agnes 1887 and Hilma Maria 1889.  The names you give make it so so likely to be the family, even though your Emma is not there.  But she was probably Mina.

For contact you might start first with Mellerud Tourist Association see http://vastsverige.com/templates/default____2639.aspx

Searches on Båsane Norre or Båsane Norra now find links to a nature reserve site in the Swedish version for the Mellerud Tourist Association, so the site is identifiable today.  If you type Båsane Norra into the Eniro map at http://kartor.eniro.se you will easily find it.

I notice also that a project at Melleruds Museum has listed Frederik and Gustava and their parents.  You might contact them.  Details are
Dalslandsprojektet, Melleruds museum,  Box 132, 464 23   MELLERUD

I notice also that the family history site Disbyt has a researcher who has a large number of ancestral relatives for Frederik and if you email me at the address in my user details I will pass his e-mail address on to you, and the e-mail link for the Dalslandsproject.

John

John Bentley,

I have replied to your message and I have sent a new email but both come back to me saying the message could not be delivered.

The answer to all of the above offers is yes,  please,  send me what information you can,  and I will definitely use what you have written already.

Thanks for your invaluable help.  hopefully,  the problem of the email address will work itself out
